My car has a 27won cai, 27won FMIC and had recently installed a Magnaflow exhaust. The dude I bought it from added a resonator and was not excessively loud. Sounded good.
The other day I bought a 27won dp and PRL fp off someone and installed it. The car became so loud and obnoxious I felt like that guy. Excessive noise taking off from a stop sign/red light, burbles/pops when decelerating/shifting no matter how hard I tried to mask it. Sound also was pretty whiny and tinny. (Small clips added for sound)

I immediately went to a muffler shop and added a 2nd resonator which helped a good amount but I would like to tone it down a little more if possible, Mostly the burbles & pops. I think I can live with the sound.

There's not a whole lot of room with the 2 resonators installed. I wouldn't want to add in a muffler and restrict airflow. (Added photos)

So my question is, would buying a "better" resonator (s) make any more of an improvement?

Can the burbles & pops be tuned out? Currently on TSP stage 1 and intend to get a custom tune fairly soon.

You need to add mufflers. The tech has improved for mufflers that they are essentially baffled resonators with chambers and they dont restrict flow or reduce power any real measureable amount (maybe if you're making 4 digit power...)

@ctechauto
Ok that's good to know.
Have any recommendations?

Muffler would need to replace a resonator.
Magnaflow, Vibrant, Borla are three of the most popular aftermarket mufflers you can buy individually and readily available especially at muffler shops. You can source other mufflers like JDM brands HKS, Apexi, Tomei etc but will require a lot more back-channeling, if you will.

We sell all of the above - PM us if you're interested in sourcing them.

I suggest spending more time in the diagnostic phase before you continue to burn through cash buying parts that may or may not fix the problem. A couple of approaches:
  1. Why do you want a downpipe or front pipe in the first place? Start there. If you pressure test this and realize there's no need for those parts, remove, replace with OEM parts, sell off the aftermarket parts, and live happily ever after; or
  2. If I read your post correctly, it seems you were fine with the exhaust until you added the 27WON downpipe and PRL front pipe. Take off the downpipe and front pipe and replace them with the OEM parts. Once you do that, add parts incrementally and go from there.
FWIW, I have found that downpipes on these cars tend to be a slippery slope. Your exhaust note is fine, and once you put a downpipe on, it may go from good to awful. This may not be a problem you can fix with incremental parts. The answer may be fewer parts or different parts altogether.

Although I agree for the most part, but seems (I am assuming using context clues here), that OP may be after the additional power those aftermarkets parts provide - especially when they were under the impression mufflers reduce power/flow. But not at the expense of going back to OEM parts

Given that I am thinking they want to just tame the sound/volume a bit instead of going back to OEM and reducing the additional power, which is exactly what mufflers would accomplish - not reduce power but tame the volume.

That's a fair assumption. Most of us are adding go-fast parts...to go fast; however, the question then becomes and what I was implying in my previous post: On a stock turbo car, is all of this worth it for 12.5 whp? Something to consider.

That Magnaflow's been chopped up too many times. I would suggest keeping the dp and fp with a stock exhaust. Maybe take the resonator off but leave the stock mufflers.

i suggest Stock catback with that setup it isnt too loud and sounds good i have stock catback with 27won DP, FP, TIP, CAI, FMIC and get plenty of compliments and have no complaints about the sound. I recently added a bigger turbo and still sounds great. Catback isnt as much of a problem with restriction to flow as the DP and FP are if you are worried about power.

@Johaw Sounds good, I just might have to go back to stock 😂😭.

Have any clips while driving/decelerating/shifting and redlining?

Also, do you still have the resonator on stock exhaust?

I guess I can get a custom tune with the profits of the exhaust 😃

I have a 2 min video of the rest of the second clip which is just driving/shifting a bit of decel but no redlining
Catback is completely stock not touched at all just the dp and fp changed.
