After considering all the options and the stats, i am trying larger DWS 06s on the OEM 19s. I do like the wheels, so i am trying a slightly larger size for the winter in Illinois. I gain some sidewall and lose a bit of tread (which seems to be an okay trade-off in snow). I also gain a little bit of height off the ground for snow driving as well. So, i will see how i like it (or not)...or how much i notice it. 255/35R19
Will let y'all know.
I’m curious to hear your thoughts on that tire size. I was going to do the same but last minute went with DWS06 plus on stock tire size 265/30/19. I’m happy so far - less road noise, little softer, and great wet traction.

I think you made a great choice. A little extra ground clearance is a good thing in winter as is more meat on the tires for better pothole durability.

I wasn't quite daring enough...
I can't afford to experiment with $1,000, however, after going through all the stats, i was seriously considering the newer Michelin CrossClimate2 "All-Weather" for the winter. No, it's not marketed as a performance tire. It's being used on Teslas, and Michelin put a lot of development into improving the latest version.

It was really hard to research because TireRack didn't compare a lot of the tires directly. Worse yet...strangely, it was difficult to find Snow/Ice numbers for the 3-peak XClimate2 (huh??) and difficult to find the Wet/Dry numbers for the DWS 06s (go figure?). I'm still missing the wet lap numbers for the DWS 06. On one of the tests, they said the DWS 06s did really great on wet and dry laps, but gave no actual numbers. grrrr.

Knowing how marketing works... I'm suspicious they do that on purpose so we cannot see all of them together to determine an ultimate winner -- everyone gets to be a top performer within their own category. Whatever the reason, the result is that snow condition and car weight/mass and suspensions could be different between tests.

I tried TyreReviews.com, but they didn't do any Ice testing at all, plus no snow testing for the DWS 06 that i could find. I did so much work on this, i want to at least share in case anyone cares.

While I thought the XClimate 2s might be a fun test, i couldn't find a good size match that i wanted. The tire width would have gone down from a 10.4 to a 9.6 to get it on a 19" wheel. I'm sure some of you would be fine with that for winter, but i didn't want quite that narrow a tire in case i rode on it in warmer/dryer weather. There was an 18" option of 255/35 R18. Maybe some other year. ;)

For those who might be interested, here are the stats i compiled in many hours of going through charts and videos (best i could find). Hope these numbers line up for you -- it was difficult to get the spacing right...
