TEN YEARS
When Wake the Dragon kicked off back in 2018, it was a tight-knit gathering of around 70 people. Like a lot of events, COVID hit us hard and slowed our momentum for a stretch, but we've come back stronger than ever, with 300+ attendees in 2026 and continuing to climb. That kind of growth has made one thing clear: the event has reached the point where it needs dedicated event management to keep pace with what it's becoming.

Please keep an eye out for updates over the coming weeks. We're actively revamping the structure of Wake the Dragon to make it more worthwhile and more efficient for everyone involved, including attendees, vendors, and partners alike. One of the first changes you'll see is that going forward, our events will be built around more days with activities spread out across a longer window, along with extended vendor sale periods so there's more opportunity to participate, shop, and engage.

This is our 10th anniversary, and we're going big. A full decade of this event deserves a celebration to match, and we're already hard at work making sure it lives up to the milestone. Every year this thing gets bigger and every year the same thing brings us back: good roads, good people, and a parking lot full of cars built by the folks standing next to them. Year ten is going to be the best one yet.



THE BASICS

• Dates: March 18-20, 2027 (optional activities on the 21st)
• Where: Fontana Village Resort, Fontana Dam, NC. Home base for the Dragon (US-129), the Hellbender (NC-28), and the Cherohala Skyway
• Who: Everybody. This is a CivicX event, not a 10th-gen-only event. There will be all sorts of Hondas/Acuras here.
• Cost: TBA

LODGING
Fontana Village Resort is the host property and where the majority of the event takes place.

GIVING BACK
A portion of our income goes to a designated charity. In the last two years we have raised $18,000 for Blount County Rescue Squad (the volunteers who run toward the Dragon when it goes wrong).



GOOD TO KNOW

• Cell service is bad. Some carriers work in the Fontana lobbies if Wi-Fi is down. Robbinsville has coverage. Plan accordingly.
• Radios: 2-way radios strongly recommended. Our primary channel is CHANNEL 4.
• Photos: Professional photographers shoot the Dragon daily (~$5/image). Killboy.com is the one everybody uses.
• Fuel & groceries: Robbinsville, NC is about 18 miles from the Dragon, 27 from Fontana Village.

CONDUCT
Short version: don't be the reason we can't have this.

• No racing, no reckless driving, no street takeover behavior (on the Dragon or anywhere else)
• Respect the residents, the LEOs, and the resort staff
• Drive your own pace. There is no prize for being fastest and there are a lot of trees
• Anyone endangering the safety or property of others is done for the weekend

The Dragon is 318 curves in 11 miles with no guardrails and no cell service. Ten years of this event have stayed clean because people take that seriously. Keep it that way.

What did the dealership have to say about all of that?

That there was no record of the oil change being performed by them even though they had record of multiple prior services done. Tara only takes her car to that one dealer for work they can’t do themselves or for the free oil changes.

Since no damage was done to the engine, they washed their hands of the dealer.

I hate to hear that it was a little messy there, but glad it's seemingly cleared up!
