Car just threw code P0087 again for the second time in a month. Does anyone have experience with this code? My car is completely stock. Tech said car hit 35lbs of boost at 100mph.

Apparently it can be a bad wastegate actuator, bad fuel rail, bad injectors, or bad LPFP.

My low pressure fuel pump was replaced at 12,748 miles. I currently have 17,400 miles. Could the new LPFP be sealed improperly and causing a fuel leak or not enough pressure?

Any insight appreciated.

my car shut down after throwing P00087 at 95 mph at 3500 rpm, fuel rail pressure low.

I dont think your LPFP is sealed incorrectly or else you would suffer this issue more frequently than you have already. I am speculating, but after doing research and seeing how many issues others have I believe (speculation- i am not an engineer) that Honda's fuel pump, or HPFP is defective as manufactured and will occasionally fall below what's being requested at higher speeds.

until Honda creates a new part revision I dont think this will be fixed. However, there is likely enough customers who have had this issue, to create a class action lawsuit, which I am considering, since I was pretty pissed off they acted like I was a criminal for going 95 mph, and tried to say that was the issue. IF youre going to sell your type R as a competitor to other performance cars you better be able to supply fuel at 95 mph on a bone stock car. catalogue here if you know of other individuals that have this same code, and i will should consider suing. It's the only way to get their attention fast and get this issue fixed.

I will ask around and see if anyone else has thrown this code. I am down to go after them, as the car shut off on me twice merging onto the highway with people swerving around me and honking (happened in Miami lol)...pretty scary stuff.

Sounds like an aftermarket hpfp may remedy it in the meantime.

I had a customers car come in with this code, but it barely idled. hpfp failed super low miles, under 5k miles. Replaced and no issues, other then me rolling the o ring and causing an oil leak. The lpfp that is under recall for some models can easily be messed up by no fault of the tech really. When installing the new pump the o ring can roll and cause stalling or super long crank time. Ive seen this code a lot on older earth dreams accord motors, but only once on a fl5. Have seen the 1.5 break a camshaft lol. The 1.5"s are a head gasket eating beast.

Thanks for the heads up. My dealer didn't want to replace the hpfp for me under warranty. Maybe I can find an oem one someone took off when going XDI or Full-race.

Where in KY are you? I recently started collecting Bourbon and need a plug!

No progress yet, which is crazy. Honda corporate wants to give me $2,000 for the inconvenience. I want them to just buy the car back at this point.

OP ain't got it in him to modify the car. If he is waiting a buy back for what I'd consider a minor issue. He'd go nuts if he had to work through issue in the aftermarket world.

I love it when strangers on the internet chime in and don’t know anything about the situation. Thank you for casting judgement without knowing the full story. Appreciate all the input 🤣

So this is completely heresay, but I've been able to get my 25 type R on a drag strip to ~125mph. The car wanted to push even harder in 5th gear around 4k rpm at that speed, 5th had at least another 20 miles on it. I've also been able to drive the car hard at 100+ for at least a minute or two at a time.

I think what you're experiencing is a rare occurrence, I know there was a recall on pumps (both high and low pressure) for the civics in the past, so it could be a result of that.

They already replaced my LPFP and my entire transmission. Car was in and out of the shop for a total of 85 days. Longest stint being 61 days straight.
