Did my second oil change at 6000 miles. Only used on street for daily driving.

Some small debris that looks like black grit/dirt. A handful of small copper strands. Could not see anything floating in the oil - it was only visible after I drained the waste oil out.

I’ll be informing the dealer in case my engine goes boom in next few thousand miles.

Are you sure that your oil catch pan was totally clean? I've noticed a lot of dirt/dust kicks around in my garage because the furnace is in there. Unless it was a brand new pan I wouldn't worry too much about it. 🤷‍♂️

You will have a significant amount of break in metal in the first 20k miles. Unless you do a handful of changes in the first 5k miles you will gradually see wear metals trend down. If you open an oil filter after break in you will see metal all over the filter element

Glad I stumbled across this post cause I had a very similar experience when I did my 6000 mile oil change! Tiny amount of metal strands and dirt in the oil. I couldn’t be sure if some of it was already in the pan though or if it came out of the car. Scared the shit outta me 🤣

I made a post about it and people had differing opinions on if it was normal or not. Car drives perfectly fine, oil pressure is good, and no odd sounds from the engine.

I’m doing another oil change soon since I’m getting close to the 9000 mile mark and we’ll see what it shows. I’ll be sending off an oil sample to black stone as well

Do an oil test, and make sure you take the sample oil as the oil is pouring from the engine, don't dip from the pan.

I've driven another 7000 miles since this "incident" without issue. No weird noises or hiccups yet - I'm going to assume normal!

Good to hear. I’m almost at 3000 miles since my last oil change with no issues also.
Have you done another oil change since? any metal debris found if you did?

Just did my latest oil change. 8000km =4,970.97 mi on the oil.

99% reduction in the amount debris in the oil this time. Only one tiny piece I could find. Considering it has substantially reduced and hasn't increased, I'm attributing it to break in wear.

I just did my 9k mile oil change as well and didn’t notice anything significant come out this time around at all. Still took a sample and sending off to blackstone.

One thing I noticed though was when I wiped off the outside of the oil pain from excess oil that got on it..I noticed tiny flakes of metal coming off the outside of the oil pan and landing into my used oil pan. I wonder if that’s what I was seeing last 🤷🏻‍♂️

Either was it was comforting to see no debris in the oil this time
