My car, 2025 honda civic hatchback sport is approaching 600 miles. I come from the sport bike world we’re your first oil change was around 5-600 miles then every 3000 with an oem filter. I’m planning on changing my cars oil when it gets 600 miles. Then at 3000 miles then every 5000 miles always with a new oem Honda filter. What do you guys think of my schedule , suggestions, and your schedule? I’m also going to change the engine air filter every third oil change so every 15,000 miles with the oem Honda filter. I would like this car to last many years and miles because I Ike it. Thank you for any replies

Personally, I did 800 miles and 1500 miles. I’ll change again at 3000 and every 3000 after that.

Also, I do not drive my car very often. I’m at 1500 miles in a little over a year. So my situation may be a little different than yours.

Not the oil debate! I plan on doing 600-700 once my CTR gets there, then 3k-5k depending on driving habits.

Just follow the manufacturer recommendations. I forget what the initial break in change was. The maintenance minder seems to do a good job to be a regular interval and I really haven't stretched it out further at all. Sometimes more frequent just based on other things I have been in the shop for. 1.5T in the Si for me.

I waited until 5k miles and plan to change every 5k with 5W-30. It doesn't hurt to change more frequently. I'm not a track day driver, which makes a big difference.
New motorcycles I've bought recommended the first oil change at 600 mi. This might be due to the wet clutch.
On motorcycle engines I've rebuilt, I changed oil after a few short rides. I assume my honing job, though good, isn't factory perfect.

Why the 5w-30 when you don't drive on the track? I remember reading that 27won article about how 5w-30 is only useful in high stress situations for the engine (ie: WOT for 20 minutes on the track), daily drivers and even modded cars do fine running stock thickness and weight

First one was 4k on mine because that's the mileage I was at my 1-year mark.

Plan on changing every 5k or 1x a year, whichever comes first.

Note: I don't track my DE5.

Higher viscosity oils provide a thicker oil film. The crank journals literally ski on an oil film. Low rpm, high load (boost) situations strain the film thickness and may allow metal on metal contact. There are engineering calculations for journal bearing oil film thickness, which I studied way back in college.
The Honda UK owners manual shows 5W-30 being totally acceptable. The 0W oils are strictly for EPA fuel economy, the difference being miniscule.
A relative working in Detroit's big 3 engineering, says the same thing - use 5W-30.

Sounds like a plan, will likely switch once I'm off the service pass

Did mine at 1000km to remove wear deposits.

That being said I don’t think it really made a difference. The filter will catch anything harmful before it reaches the internal oiling.

Thanks guys. I know my car is not a performance machine but I definitely won’t follow the maintenance minder because oil is cheap so I will stay with my plan of new oil and Honda oem filter at 600 miles then the same at 3000 miles then the same every 5000 miles just because I like her

First oil change , I'll wait to 20 to 15 %
MM said 10%
Next oil changes ; around 30 % with synthetic 0-2
