It's official. We now have a 10 year/150k mile warranty on our head gaskets.

I do feel kinda cheated with this. I just bought a civic si new. I’m not a rich guy but I was so excited about the si because I knew I could drive it for 15 years and then give it to my new born son to be his first car. We drive cars about 15 years. Now they give us a 10 year warranty but if I just wanted to drive a car for 10 years, I would have gotten a Elantra n. I got a Honda to give it to my boy. Now I think a smart man sells it year 9 and that makes me sick.

i would drive the absolute piss out of it 10-20k miles before the warranty expires. Engine trials, basically. that way, if it's going to fail, let it fail before the warranty is up.

If you get some head studs and put the head gasket on yourself, you can likely get more than the 15 years you want. Hopefully a dealership can work with you to put in aftermarket head studs meant to hold more boost.

Older hondas were much simpler cars. Elantra n is more high strung than the si. Im not sure if it will last 10+ yrs without major overhaul. Headgasket job isnt the end of the world. I find the si very diy friendly. You can call it survivorship bias, but I had close to 150k miles on 10th Gen with zero issues.
