Hood strut kits and Hondas pop-up hood system

From what I understand, Hondas PUHS was created to help absorb some of the blow to the cranium when hitting a pedestrian. Reportedly, it causes some significant damge to the vehicles hinge area. Once it's deployed we're screwed period, but if anyone has experienced it, how has hood struts affected the overall outcome, in terms of damage, was it more or less?

That mostly applies to international markets. The US model does not have the pop-up hood system.
