Hi. About how long (during these covid times) should it take to get a VIN or delivery date after a car begins production?

Say a new civic started production around December 20th. Should there be a VIN by now (January 8th)?

I’ve heard production usually takes 2-3 days. But I have no VIN yet, almost 3 weeks later. I am concerned.

I'm in the same boat, waiting on an order / dealer trade. It was supposed to be built between the 6th and the 12th (December) I think.

I don't envy car shoppers these days. Some dealers will string you along to prevent you from taking your business to a different dealer! Happened to us this summer, it was so frustrating.

I ordered my car back on November 13th and haven’t heard a thing yet. I reached out back before Christmas and was told they won’t know anything until middle to end of January

@sgtmorph, dm’d you again, thx!

From what I’ve seen ans learned, dealers know exactly what they have ordered and allocated to them and what week it will be built. Like they literally have a report they can bring up. Of course, that can get delayed, but I can’t believe production would get delayed by months like what others are seeing here — even with chips/supply delays. I’d venture to say the dealer is stringing you along until the right car gets allocated to them.
