I'm noticing a lot of play when in gear, and I'm maybe not yet confident about being in gear from time to time. I don't want to be too rough with the OEM shifter.

Ideally I'd like to do something simple like shifter bushings rather than a whole short shifter system.

Yes, very similar to the Hybrid Racing ones. I actually have the Acuity cable bushings in my car. I just posted the Hybrid Racing ones because I was on their site for the detent springs.
Don’t they stretch the cables over time?

The base bushings look like a PITA to install. I'm prone to breaking and losing those small plastic pieces and metal clips XD
Its actually easy to do, just tedious. I put any small bits in a ziplock bag as I went to not lose anything.

I used this video as a reference.

i don't think the base bushings will do much for play. i think the cable end bushings will be a big improvement though. i've done both the base bushings and cable end bushings on a previous car and the base bushings just made the shifter vibrate a bit more.
