Sakebomb top hats have subtle 'clunk', but I only hear it when I really looking for it. In normal driving, barely noticeable. No issues from me on this.

For pre-load and height, I did set at recommended settings. The car drop a bit with approx. 1 finger gap in the front and 1.5 finger gap in the rear. Not too aggressive but enough to minimize wheels gap, I'm satisfied with the drop.

I was occupied at work, apology for delayed response.
I appreciate your response - no worries! How would you describe the ride quality? If you’re honest with yourself, do you at all regret pulling the trigger, or is the change significant? A lot of people talk about feeling more “planted” and having more grip - what do you think? If you could describe how you think the suspension feel has changed, I’d love to hear it.

It is definitely an upgrade from stock suspension. No regret in pulling the trigger; the only regret is maybe I should go for TTX version (higher level than DFV). Because I only can imagine if I have ability to set 3 ways on the suspension, must be a dream.

It is firm but not uncomfortable, ride quality is much better than OEM. Please note that I need to juggle with the rebound on the 'click settings', this is the reason why I move away from 15 clicks to 11 clicks. It's a compromise that I'm willing to make ... I notice that with Ohlins, I have more confidence to push the car more (both on straight line & corners). It gave you confidence and control, way more than stock suspension. You can call it more planted, more grips, more control, etc - but at the end of the day, it give you confidence to push the car more to the limit. It is kind of indescribable feelings when you are on the wheel. I know, it's weird ;) .

Nice!

For anyone interested, we're running a slight promotion on Ohlin this month. ;)

Thank you! Great information. Are you able to adjust the “clicks” with the wheels on the car? Also, what wheels and tires are you running on all four corners? I’m trying to determine if I’ll be able to run a 275/35/18 +45 in the rear with these coilovers without rubbing. I was wondering… do you think you would be willing to measure your ride height for me? Basically, the distance between the ground and the middle of each fender, traveling through the center hub of the wheel? Front and rear if you could. I would really be grateful.

Yes, I can adjust the click with wheels on the car (front & rear), no need to take the wheels off. I got used to do it now, I can do it within 10 seconds or less per wheels. Very convenient.

I'm switching back and forth on wheels (between FL5 Accessory Wheels & Volk Racing ZE40), both wheels are using 265 30 19 with Michelin 4S.

I'll do the measurement and took pictures of the car when I get a chance

for what its worth, i had a set of ohlins on my fk8 and found them to be bone crushing. I ended up getting swift springs at different rates than what came with the Coilovers. Dropping the rears to 6k or 8k would help a lot, i also added some energy suspension coil pads in the rear to take some bite out as well.

I must be getting old. I was one of the early buyers of the Ohlins DFV when it became available for the S2000. The spring rate that came with it was 11k front and 10k rear if I remember correctly. I had it set around 5 clicks from full stiff front and rear. It was awesome on the track. It was my first legit set of coilovers. I had a set of entry level Teins on my 2000 Prelude and it doesn’t compare. But on the street, the S2000 is not fun to drive. Every little bump feels like a crater.

I recently changed out the springs in the S2000 to 7k front and 6k rear, in hopes of making the S2000 more enjoyable to drive on the street. Hence I scratch my head when I hear comments on how putting coilovers of any brand with 9k+ spring rates makes the ride on the FL5 better or even more compliant. How is this possible?

I installed the CR suspension on my 03 AP1; it also had 7/6 spring rates. The ride was still comfortable for me, but then again, I had the stock Ford Econoline van-like stock height tire sidewalls on my 16 inch wheels though.

2 things can be true, I’m getting old and roads around me are getting worse.

If you are in NYC roads are trash. It's like a 3rd world country out there. Cameras everywhere, speed limit is changing to 20 mph and well for all the revenue they collect, the roads are terrible

Sorry to hear that, my experience is more positive than yours. I just change my settings to 14 clicks in front and 12 click in rear. The ride is firm but comfortable, it soaked the bump very well on normal street & highway driving; off course I lost a bit of sharpness but it's always a trade off. It will not be Accord or Benz comfort. Again, I'm not buying Type R for comfort so I adjust my expectation accordingly.

We are getting old ... LOL

I would not call it more compliant ride, I will call it firm but not uncomfortable. It is definitely better than FL5 OEM shock suspension (even with ITS ADS). I think we need to calibrate ourselves on our expectation of Type R ride. Just my 2 cents.

Isn't Ohlins supposed to be releasing a revised kit with lower spring rates? I follow @Zygrene for ITS content (wonderful channel, HIGHLY suggest any enthusiast give him a sub as well), and he's been working directly with Ohlins on his Type S and is going from the 6kg front/10kg rear setup originally engineered for the FK8 to 7kg all around. Jury's still out on if/how much an improvement is made, but I feel like that change could make this a very viable solution vs springs for those of us who plan to extract a bit more of the car's potential on top of drive it most days.
