Hey all.

I would like to ask if anyone is running an OS Giken 1.5 way LSD (55° accel/35° decel) in their FL5 and what's the transmission oil you're using with LSD installed.

Was recommended to use the OS-250R or OS-250R which both have an API rating of GL5. However, I'm not sure if it's compatible with the FL5s transmission and will I have any issues with the gears locking out, etc. Can you guys please recommend transmission fluid that is compatible with this LSD?

Secondly, I would like to ask if anyone has an FK8 final drive for sale and willing to ship to Malaysia. Was planning to get the M Factory final drive but it's way too short for the circuit I'm on (Sepang) which results in way too many shifts. The 4.111 ratio of the FK8 FD seems to be a better option.

Thanks in advance.

If I remember correctly the FL5 transmission requires GL-4 transmission fluid, so something like Redline MTL or MT-90, Amsoil 75W-90, Liquimoli High Performance Gear Oil, GM Synchromesh, etc. GL5 fluid tends to have "sacrificial" componentsfor the extreme pressures it is designed to work under but those componenets can cause damage to the internal parts of the transmission over time.

Ever considered using the Accord 2.0T final drive which is around 3.84, might be beneficial if youre car is making enough power andf would help reduce stress on the transmission.

i would just use Honda MTF. these cars come with an LSD so it should work fine.

i've never had a good experience using GL-5 fluids in my M/T cars. always too slick for the synchros.

someone recommended Torco MTF but they had recently changed their formula from GL-4 to GL-5 and it was AWFUL. don't know why they would do that, but they did.

I was curious about a slightly more aggressive final drive ratio myself. The FK8 could be a little extreme at 4.11:1, but that Accord ratio might be perfect! I like shorter gearing, but I wonder if the extra torque might ruin traction in the first 2 gears even more.

THe FL5/DE5 has the shortest final ratio of the 3, the Accord has the longest. IF you want a shorter final drive you would have to go to the aftermarket.

From what I’ve read, the FL5 has a final drive of 3.842 (same as accord?), and the FK8 has 4.11. I’m calling the lower number “taller”, which is how I’ve known it.

Thanks for the suggestions guys.

I've read a lot of good things of the GM Synchromesh for the FL5 transmission, unfortunately, we don't get it here in Malaysia.

The OS Giken is a clutch type LSD as opposed to the helical LSD that comes from the factory. I wonder if I could use the Redline MT90 with an LSD additive like the Torco Type F.

Isn't the FL5 final drive 3.84:1 as well? Hence why I was looking at the FK8 final drive. The after market option here is the M factory which comes in 4.5:1 and 4.73:1.

That's my bad I thought it was a shorter final drive, when the FL5 has slightly shorter gear ratios. The Final drive is the same as the Accord
