Howdy, y'all.
Haven't seen anything like this yet, so I figured I'd start a thread for dog lovers to post and share your favorite ways to drive with your dogs in the car with you.
I have the biggest, baddest, damn-near MilSpec, toppest of the notch Large KONG dog harness for my 60 pound Staffordshire, Chippy.
I take him on walks with this harness, and when bringing him in the car with me, I *WAS* just running a seatbelt through the front of the harness. This did not keep him from moving around at all. He is a high anxiety dog, and was, for lack of a better term, "fidgety" every time I put him in the car.
After months of dealing with Chippy constantly stepping on the seatbelt button, unbuckling the seatbelt, and getting the seatbelt twisted around his harness, I finally found a good solution to keep him secure in his seat.
Kong Ultimate Safety Tether. Available at PetSmart.
It attaches to the Child Safety latch tether points in the back seat.
One end clips on the rear tether point.
Two ends in the front attach to the lower tether points in between the seatback and the seat itself.
Front Left clip.
Front Right clip.
Shout Out to DREAM Automotive for including the Child Safety tether holes in the FL5 Seat Covers! Good Lookin' Out!
All three tether straps are adjustable for height, and the middle strap that connects to the dog harness has limited adjustability.
I ran the rear strap around the inside of the rear seat headrest to keep the dog (maybe) from being right up against the door.
Chippy is now secure in his seat and ready to ride. No seatbelt necessary.
Go ahead, Chippy, step on that seatbelt button all you like!
("Top Paw" Orthopedic Dog Bed not included.)
I'd love to see what other people do to keep your dog secure in the seat of your Civic.
Photos or it didn't happen!
Cheers.
