I didnt think i could find one at msrp hence the Si (3weeks ago, 1,050miles)purchase but luck is currently on my side- its just bad timing. What is the best way to go about this without losing too much equity? I financed with intent to pay the SI off with the first Payment. 33k plus 1500 for Extend warranty, 900 for gap and Tire/Rim package. It hasnt been a month.

Should I pay it off and trade it in or.... im not sure what my other option would be, never traded in before so this is new to me. Is the warranty transferable? or is that negotioated with thte trade in? any advice on negotiating this would be greatly appreciated my guys/girls

thank you

It's going to vary wildly based on what dealership you're going to trade in with. You're likely better off selling your Si to someone who was going to finance at their bank but want to save a little $$ on basically a new car. Wait it out to not get shilled at a dealership then take a trip to anywhere that isn't the east or west coast and buy a CTR for MSRP.

Consider the tax offset you will realize if you go the dealership route vis-à-vis private party. You will almost certainly take a bath on this one so every little bit counts.

This is tough to read considering you clearly didn't perform proper due diligence when you were searching for a Type R. This car is selling for MSRP all day and below in many instances if you're a savvy buyer. Good luck, I hope this works out decently for you.

Thanks for the heads up. Im in NYC aka MARK UP HELL.

I hadnt even considered the Type R for that reason, and it wasnt until i realized that Tuning the Si would ultimately cost more long term (headgasket, clutch, expedited wear n tear)

Ill just put it up for sale and see if i get any bites, if not ill likely just ride this out and enjoy it for what it is, my slow-ass-42mpg- getting weekend car that is still a joy to drive.

Midlife crisis in FULL effect.

If you just went a little north to upstate there's a ton of MSRP type R's here, just have to negotiate a little.

That said I think you should hang onto it for a while since the type R sounds like it might be an impulse buy

If it's your weekend car, I'd just take the hit and go for it. Si is not going to be special enough and it's going to keep bugging you. I wanted to trade mine in, but I'm keeping it as my daily.

Send it. I just traded my white 24 fl5 that had 38k miles on it in for a new white 26 fl5. I paid 48,500 out the door here in Ohio.

The money you'll to lose throughout the process of selling/trading your Si and buying the typeR would equal buying a marked up TypeR originally. It doesn't make sense to buy a typeR solely because you found a good deal. It does make sense if you just don't like your Si. You mentioned dumping $mods into your Si means you're probably going to dump $mods into your typeR too, so that financial support is mute (darn that Honda mod addiction).

FYI these are two very different performing cars. The Si is a good fun car with some performance while comfortable enough to daily. The TypeR is all out performance which is amazingly fun but depending on your roads and if you drive/commute often could be painfully uncomfortable for a daily (i.e. why so many peoples first upgrade is the Acura Type S ADS module).

Careful selling to to private party. As a previous poster mentioned, when you trade your car in you don't pay the sales tax again for the new car up to what the trade in value is.
Ex. trade $30K and new car $40k = pay sales taxes on only $10K.

Man, i miss old school forums of the late 90s and early 00s. The internet has been a wash the last 15 years. This forums reminds of me yesteryear. I havent seen sound unbiased advice on the net in ages. imagine the same question on reddit? holy shit-tits.

It would be a weekend car as I have the privelage of walking to work (as a Train Operator for MTA) with my home station 5 blocks away. Employees get a free pass, so even then I bus around for free or ride my bike (Beach Town). Weekends is for picking up the lady, grocery getting and SCENIC ROUTES. In fact i broke in the SI up in Bear Moutain, fun drive. Def shines on the windy roads.

I would keep the TypeR stock. My prior car ,which i still own and is hanging by a thread while I teach my lady how to drive stick , is a GTI Mk6... Bone stock for 14 bipolar years. Fun peppy ride, but Ill never go VW again. Nothing but headaches. Once Lessons are over, shes getting launched into the Atlantic.

Definitely jumped the gun on the SI, hard to read its full potential during a test drive on NY side streets..

On top of all that, Im a true hatch guy but they dropped the ball on the civics. Looks like.a Frankenhatch. The sedan design looks significantly better imo, but im all about function than fashion these days.

We shall see..

Thanks again all.
