What did you do to your FL5 today?

Installed one of the souvenirs I got from Japan Autobacs store. They only had blue but it works fine for SGP.

Also installed some CF mudguards I also picked up in Japan. Shot of the front coverage:

COBB Intercooler Kit installed

I went with a bar-and-plate intercooler since this car will see more daily driving than track work, with turbo and fueling upgrades planned later. I haven’t seen many COBB kits installed yet, so I figured I’d go for it and share some feedback.

Everything came well packaged. The core was secured nicely, the pipes were individually wrapped, and the couplers, clamps, and hardware were boxed and bagged properly. The core has GARRETT etched on top since Garrett manufactures the core, while the rest is COBB’s in-house work. I also like that COBB used its own side brackets instead of reusing the factory ones. They feel sturdier and look better.

COBB’s manual says some undertray trimming will be required, but on the FL5 we didn’t have to trim anything - their install was on a DE5. The bumper guides do need to be removed since this core is roughly twice the size of the factory intercooler. The outside air temperature sensor also does not need to be relocated; it just needs to be flipped from the inside clip position to the outside.

Fitment was bang-on. Since the bumper was already off, we also installed the 27WON intake snorkel. This is a street car, and I overheat more often sitting light-to-light, so it made sense to try. It’s also easily reversible. A WOT cooling plate also went on, which should help offset any potential efficiency loss from removing the shroud + slightly blocking the radiator.

Once everything was back together, there was no interference, no CEL, and no erratic idle, which is always a good sign.

First drive impressions: there is a slight pressure drop compared to the factory intercooler, which is expected when moving to a larger core. I can maybe feel a quarter-second of added throttle delay, but it’s quickly offset by a stronger mid-range that carries harder to redline. A fair bit of the punchier mid-range can be contributed to the install of the Infinity Designs Intake and Inlet, that was also installed at the same time. I will talk about that in a follow-up post. The intake, inlet, and intercooler are definitely all working together.

For reference, the car made 310 whp / 340 wtq on a Dynojet in stock form a couple weeks ago. I wouldn’t be surprised if I go back on a similarly cool day and put down somewhere around 320 whp / 355 wtq.

It took a lot of hours, with the added headache of installing them at the same time because of the interior parts that needed to be disassembled. Luckily, everything worked on the first try, and I only had to use the plastic welder for one clip of the center console cupholder.
Honda harnesses should come wrapped in felt tape. Also, I peeled the cables and welded instead of using the crimp connectors that the kits include.

In the picture bellow you can only appreciate 3/5 accessories, as the door-added illumination and the center console illumination only work with the ignition ON.

Trying out different tire sizes for the new TE37’s wheels. These are 275/35r19 all season with a round sidewall. I’ll lean towards an all Summer 275/30r19 or 285/30r19 tire, i’ll try the 285/30 tomorrow.

What's the oil life indicator say? If it's about to hit one year, you should be at about 15%. If so, your first oil change should be free, so take it to your Honda dealer.

The cars first oil change should not be done by the cars maintenance minder. 600-1000 miles for the first oil change. After that you can start doing its regular oil change intervals. You want to get rid of all that assembly lube and possible fine shavings. You can continue to use 0w20 is you’d like, i tend to run 0w30 for winter/colder days, and 5w20 or 5w30 for summer days. 6qts with filter change.

Happy to share! You just have to unbolt, and set them to the side. I keep all my OEM parts in the boxes that the aftermarket parts come in or in a designated area. My FK8 part-out was a breeze since we kept everything

Super helpful. Might be good to provide that feedback to COBB Tuning to add that clarifying point to the installation instructions. It sounds like this discovery is worth either separate instructions for the FL5 or at least a call out. There are some customers who are not interested in cutting, trimming, or otherwise permanently modifying their car to install an aftermarket part. This could be the difference between them selecting this product or moving on to another.
