I know the compact spare from the FK8 has been tested and discussed at length. But for those who went the route of a full sized spare, what wheel options are there?

I replaced two tires because of a pothole and one tire was still good so I have that handy. I was considering getting the compact spare, but for $200 for the kit and another $100-150 for a spare, I might as well consider a full size of the same or comparable spec.

Of course, OEM, maybe I can find someone willing to split out a set. It would have the factory +60 offset. Could go aftermarket but until I get aftermarket wheels I'd need to also get new lug nuts, and +60 isn't common. Used OEM might be best/cheapest?

I figure I might be able to drive longer on a full spare than a compact. It would likely just live in my garage and if I get a flat reasonably close to home just fetch it with another car...

I haven't tried on the FL5, but on the FK8 a full-size wheel/tire won't fit in the spare tire spot. Annoying.

I still carry a full spare on any kind of long trip, but it's just on the floor behind the rear seat, tied down.

FL5 has an indentation for a compact spare but it raises the trunk floor several inches if you use the FK8 kit. I'd rather not drive around full time like that with a compact so I might as well just keep a full size in the garage. I use the trunk space often as it's my daily.

Check this out: https://www.integraforums.com/forum/threads/a-spare-tire-that-fits-under-the-load-floor.51812/. I don't know if the load floor is the same for an FL5.
Wow, well that's interesting. I would think the floor is the same, but not 100% sure.

The FK8 spare that everybody has been taking about is a 125/70R18 ET60. Functionally, the difference is the offset, but to get that offset, the wheel face sticks out a lot to get the tire inboard. This low offset wheel is likely only the width of the tire.

Is it safe to drive on such high mismatch of offset? You're not supposed to drive fast on spares, most people do street speeds at least. But +18 vs +60 that's a lot of offset on one back corner.

Thanks! Something to think about

Correct

The outside edge of the tire ends up in roughly the same place. I drove around on it at legal+ speeds on nearby canyon roads and it felt fine
Also just caught that you are the OP on that post and GD that is a lot of detail. Reminds me of some engineering reports :)
Yes, I'm a retired mechanical engineer :)
