So, I managed to strip the threads on one of the plastic housings for our license plate bolts.

11th Gen Honda Civic Stripped License Plate Bolt Housing 20240330_150531

First, does anyone know how to replace these? Secondly, where can I purchase one?

this happened to me on my 9th gen SI. you can buy a set on amazon here. it worked well for the 9th gen, im assuming it would work for the FL5 but I would verify first. just use a plastic pry bar with a thin cloth just to be safe and pry out the old ones.

I had seen these replacement sets on Amazon but was skeptical if they'd work on our cars or not. So yeah, I'll get dims and see if there's a set on there that matches. Thanks for the help, and welcome to the site!

Should be able to easily get one from the dealership if you want an exact OEM replacement. It might not matter, though. I would only be concerned about poor fit and possible water ingress (with a non-OEM part)…but I admit that’s my OCD talking a bit too.šŸ˜‚

Yeah, I want to avoid going to the dealership if possible. And I do prefer an OE replacement. It's just that I was hoping to find somewhere online that sold the OE replacement but I can't find anywhere that does. I started this thread in hopes that someone had and could refer me to it.

Are you using coarse thread screws? Those should work unless you got all crazy and hogged out the plastic insert thingies, it doesn't look like it.

You want self tapping screws size M5x15. If you are using a fine thread/machine screw then yes, those plastic OEM things are easily stripped.

I bought Mugen license plate bolts and they just spin in the housing I circled, so I must have stripped it out with the previous screw I used.

You are using bolts that aren't designed for those plugs. The Mugen are fine thread, our car requires a coarse thread.

I bought several Ti bolts like these which are the correct thread to use:

I thought I was the only one who fell for the Mugen license plate bolt trap, but I can confirm that @Icehawk is correct and the bolts don't work right out of the box.

Keep the Mugen washers, use them with some M5x15's from the hardware store. Ace Hardware usually has a good selection of machine screws.

Good news, however, each Mugen washer adds .4whp, so the hassle is well worth it!

Have you done this yet? I just tried to pry off the grommets and I’m afraid of trying any harder in case it might break.

M5x15 countersunk will work even if it’s fine threaded?
