is it just me but this looks like it would pass visual inspection.

with the cat, i suspect i wouldn't have issues with emissions testing? or am i wrong here?

I don't want to speak for him but its state dependent. It will pass majority of the states because it looks OEM, uses a huge cat, no check engine light and uses factory heat shield.

However I cannot speak for CA as thats a different world.

Yeah, I think it would pass here in NY, and we're like the second worst state for emissions. Nowhere near as bad as cali with their state testing ofc. It's got a high cel cat and OEM heat shields, so visual inspection should be good.

Also a question, will the ptp blanket work with the stock shields, or would it just be a good idea to get it coated if I want an extra level of insulation?

New York isnt bad LOL it has a cat thats all they care about. I never had issue. It will look OEM with the heat shields on it. Also nope cant do both I told them to not put holes in the blankets so def coat it if needed. CA is CA nothing will pass there. Emissions should be fine in most states

Looking forward to receiving my custom SBX downpipe tomorrow. Custom in that there is no SBX logo or standoffs for the OEM heat shield.

Here are some measurements and weights for comparison (Note: The OEM Turbine Outlet ID is 102 mm/4.016 in.):

OEM Downpipe
(With OEM Heat Shields)
OEM Downpipe
(Raw)
TSP Downpipe
(Raw)
SBX Downpipe
(Raw - No Logo or Studs for OEM Heat Shields)
Weight6,349 grams/13.997 lbs.5,021 grams/11.069 lbs.6,041 grams/13.318 lbs.3,435 grams/7.572 lbs.
Inlet ID94 mm/3.701 in. choked down to 70 mm/2.756 in. after a 90 degree bend before the cat94 mm/3.701 in. choked down to 70 mm/2.756 in. after a 90 degree bend before the cat94 mm/3.701 in.100 mm/3.937 in.
Outlet ID53 mm/2.087 in.53 mm/2.087 in.72 mm/2.835 in.73 mm/2.874 in.

SBX straight up nailed it covering all parameters for their downpipe. Here are some weights for the heat shields:

OEM Heat Shield - Front Side
(With All Three OEM Bolts)
OEM Heat Shield - Top Side
(With One OEM Bolt to Downpipe)
PTP Hybrid Downpipe Blanket
(With Springs)
Dream Automotive
Hard-Lagged Turbo Heat Shield
Weight713 grams/1.572 lbs.615 grams/1.356 lbs.727 grams/1.603 lbs.209 grams/0.461 lbs.

Do you still have Factory exhaust? Interested to hear how it sounds on FL 5 with factory exhaust
Nope…I’ve been running a TSP downpipe, Fujitsubo front pipe and Fujitsubo exhaust. I intend to return my car to stock, buy a newer CTR and transfer the exhaust over swapping out the TSP for the SBX downpipe.

What prompted the change/upgrade to different CTR?

Plus I guess you'll have a baseline of how it sounded with the tsp versus the SBX

Updated the above table as the OEM Downpipe Inlet ID is actually choked down to 70 mm/2.756 in. after a 90 degree bend before the cat. When comparing the OEM Downpipe (Raw) to the SBX Downpipe (Raw - No Logo or Studs for OEM Heat Shields), the SBX Downpipe offers a :
  • 31.587% Reduction in Weight (-1,586 grams/-3.496 lbs.);
  • 42.857% Increase for the Inlet ID (+30 mm/+1.181 in.); essentially port matched to the OEM Turbine Outlet ID; and
  • 37.736% Increase for the Outlet ID (+20 mm/+0.787 in.).
What prompted the change/upgrade to different CTR?

My CTR has almost 40k on the odometer so I'd rather install newly acquired parts on a brand new CTR.

CA just does OBD and visual so I'm almost thinking one could get away with it depending on how persnickity the smog station is.

Understand, in California police just need Reasonable Suspicion to pull you over to check for modifications.

You can be pulled over if your car is too low, it seems loud to them, or didn't have the proper nipple piercing, c0ckring too small all based on reasonable suspicion think about it.
