We’ve had some unusual weather in Tennessee. Doesn’t typically get super cold but we’ve got some single digit nights up coming.
I don’t drive my car hard or track it. Typically speed limit or 10 over.
Are these tires okay? Is one better than the other?

Lots of these types of threads with this weather. I just made a friend in another thread, but that guy lived in Minnesota and was asking these types of questions... for you in Nashville yeah, this is quite an abnormal circumstance.

The short answer is neither will work in single digits. If you HAVE to drive it (I do not recommend it...), pick the tires you don't mind ruining. Because scientifically, it's tough to assume they're going to survive. They're not meant for this.

And god forbid you hit a wet/icy patch. You really have to experience it to fully understand how literally useless they are. Friction is a beautiful thing when talking tires, and it's not fun when it doesn't exist.

Also, and I'll just say it assuming many sets of eyes are going to come across this thread just like the other one- if you're looking for someone to tell you it's ok, I'm sure someone on here will. I encourage you to just do your due diligence. Including this post.

If there’s ANY significant ice on the roads (and there likely will be), don’t drive. The compound hardens like a hockey puck and your car will slide like a hockey puck. Even if you’re a good driver, if you have to make a quick evasive maneuver or quickly stop (because there will be others on the road who don’t know how to drive in these conditions) you won’t be able to do so. It’s not a fun feeling trying to stop but the car just slides uncontrollably.

The average low for Nashville in January is below freezing.

The average low temperature in Nashville is 40 or below for five months out of the year.

The average yearly snowfall is 4.7 inches.

You should not be driving on summer tires year-round. End of.

If you know you shouldn't be driving on summer tires year-round and you do anyway (because of whatever combination of excuses you come up with) and you cause an accident, that is 100% your own fault.

Shows how much I know. My geography brain put Nashville south of Atlanta.

I wouldn’t drive with snow on the ground. I have my wife’s car for that. Just need it for cold / rainy days
