It’s my understanding that the fees/duties/etc are included in the shipping costs.
i think all that gets charged at the port, unless you are saying you prepaid those duties/tariffs to the shipping company, which would mean you paid >= 24% of the cost of the parts for shipping/duties/tariffs

Global shipping logistics...Ever see the thousands of cargo container ships at sea live across the world? Contents per container are declared prior to shipment but only randomly inspected. So called "empty" containers are sent back if imports exceed exports for a given country. I am sure that a merchant marine can elaborate more on how that system operates.

Great deal!

I ordered the Fujitsubo exhaust w/ front pipe as well. Just going a different route for shipping. It should end up being $3k-ish shipped/imported if all goes to plan. I’ll post up how everything worked/went once I receive my order.

I was hesitant on sharing my recent wheel purchase experience considering my credit card dispute is on going. That and the fact that posting anything negative requires a thesis on the internet before people start picking things apart. Well, this is my recent experience with BHJ. Take it for what you will.

I planned to attend the type R track day meetup at VIR and wanted a new set of wheels so I can try new 200TW tires. So I ordered a set of Advance Racing GT on April 8th. I paid around $940 for shipping.

On April 14th, it arrived stateside at a port in Ohio. DHL requested information from me and BHJ. I reached out to BHJ for help and they said they would contact DHL Japan for assistance. In the next 2 days, I’ve provided personal information that DHL requested by filling out their online forms through their portal. According to DHL website, email and calling their office in Arizona, they confirmed that I’ve supplied all necessary paperwork to clear customs. There was no request for additional payment.

The wheels sat at the port for 2 weeks and didn’t clear customs. During this 2 weeks I called DHL to ask what was the delay. They said, they’ve requested information from the shipper, BHJ but didn’t hear back.

The next update I got was the wheels were on their way back to Japan on April 28th where I was provided with a new waybill over the phone with DHL. I then emailed BHJ requesting for a full refund.

BHJ initially said they would give me a refund with a 10% restocking fee. I told them, that didn’t seem right considering it’s not an actual return. I never received the wheels. BHJ did not respond for 3 days. During this time they had been pretty responsive.

My next correspondence with BHJ was through Ahmed. He said in the email response that the reason I’ve requested a refund was because I had changed my mind. He then suggested that I split the shipping cost with them 50/50 so they can ship the wheels to me again. I told him, I’m not taking the risk especially when I have to pay additional. I suggested that they ship it again and covering the cost because I still wanted the wheels. My rationale was, if I had provided all the requested documents the first time and it didn’t clear, what would change the outcome this second time.

I told BHJ since we could not come to an agreement, I’d file a credit card dispute. Which I did. The latest update from my credit card issuer as of 2 days ago, was that they are still waiting to hear back from BHJ. One month has passed and BHJ has not responded.

Prior to this wheel purchase I had bought quite a few things from them. All delivered without issue. That gave me the confidence to buy these wheels. Sadly, very disappointed in how they reacted and continue this way.

Sorry this happened to you, frustrating for sure. I have read a lot of posts about people being frustrated with DHL. What information did DHL need from you prior to delivery? I thought they just asked for import duties/tariffs and went on their way with the delivery.

Thanks for sharing your experience. I have also ordered several items from BHJ and always had a great experience, but with this tariff mess in the US I’ll probably delay any more big purchases from Japan for the foreseeable future. I never heard of so many issues clearing customs prior to the tariffs.

I had to provide SSN. Filled out a form with some personal information and where I bought the wheels. They actually asked for EIN but I had to tell them I’m not a business and bought these for personal usage.

I suspect this is also the reason why. DHL also made announcements on decreasing number of shipments to the US if I remember correctly. Regardless, this is a good time to not buy anything and just enjoy the car.

@TW00Si Thanks for having the courage to share your experience. Also, sorry this happened. I had a parts shipment held up in customs last year (pre-tariff) and the shipper (NOT BlackHawk Japan) wasn't all that helpful. In the end, disaster averted and I received my parts; however, I'm certain they would've been sent back if I weren't incredibly assertive in my pursuit of the parts clearing customs.

Like others in this thread, I've also had several positive experiences with BHJ going back over two years. Communication has been good, not great, but nothing alarming.

A few questions to clarify things a bit:

1. Who or what is Ahmed?
2. Did you attempt to continue to contact BHJ between when they said they would engage DHL Japan for assistance and April 28 (return to sender notification from DHL)? If so, what was the volume of correspondence during that time period and what was BHJ telling you.
3. Likely a premature question given the pending status of your credit card chargeback, but I'll ask anyway. Will you do business with them again?

Keep us posted. Fingers crossed this ends favorably for you.

This is the chance we take trying to save some money. As I said earlier my last shipment was stuck in customs for a bit and they needed the $$ tariff fee to release it and my SS number. This wasn't a business purchase it was a Spoon wheels purchase that was ordered 6 months ago. Right now is not a good time to order from them because yes on paper it looks great but once it hits customs is when you will spend the extra money. Blackhawk Japan communication is also terrible as it takes a week for them to answer and it is always a "Sorry about that" and nothing more. Just my experience not as a business owner but in my personal life. (ordered before I created my business)
