On past cars I've used 1/4" mesh galvanized chicken wire. Just painted it black and zip tied behind the grill opening. Doesn't block flow and prevented rock impacts. A small roll is $17 at Home Depot.

I've also used this chicken wire to keep mice out of the airbox intake and cabin exit vents (under rear bumper) on another car that parked outside. Fortunately I found the mouse problems before they cost me big $.

Old thread but there's another product out there that looks more like what I'm looking for. Has anyone tried this already? This one only protects the lower/intercooler opening:

RGS Front Center Radiator Mesh Grille

Another option is to use perforated aluminum or plastic from a company like Custom Car Grills and fab it up the way you like it.

I upgraded my horns and since I had the bumper off I put some additional screen (it was actually Home Depot black gutter screen that cost about $5) across the lower intercooler and radiator. It's pretty stealthy and looks good.
