I doubt most oils will show a visible visual difference over the first couple of hundred miles and is a poor indicator of the condition of the oil. There would be little color difference between 3k/5k/7k.
where did I say a couple of hundred?

I corrected my post to "after" a couple of hundred of miles. My point is that oil turns dark fairly quickly in its serviceable life and that you cannot accurately determine the condition an oil is just by visual inspection.

I thought it was established that appearance is a very poor and unreliable indicator of oil quality/remaining life.

Some people are still quite neurotic when it comes to oil. Keep it at the proper level (looking at you, Subaru guys), don't wait until it becomes sludge and change it at a reasonable interval and you're good. People underestimate how good modern synthetic oils are.

Nothing like some good ol' service bulletin from 1998, from the days before synthetic oil was regularly used.
And yet… it still said just follow the regular maintenance.
