I’m still into them. While I don’t get to use them much these days, I do like to build them if I have some spare time . That said this isn’t a good car. Not the best electronics and radio , the tires are not great and the diffs are packed with thick grease. There is a YouTube review of it. Also if you are in the U.S. I don’t believe the company will ship and if they do they told me there is a 50% tariff . A few U.S. retailers will get it in time and I plan to purchase the body only and build my own car to put it on .

Good information, thanks for sharing. I've seen these sold on the secondary market on FB if any one is interested just be on the lookout.

Ty and to add the ones you are seeing on Facebook are smaller scale an even worse than this one. They are the ones that were only given to dealers. Two different companies and the people selling the ones on Facebook imo are charging way too much for a small scale like that . I still think they are both cool and would love to get my hands on the bodies of each of them to put on my own chassis and electronics.

Thanks! Good to hear from someone with modern RC car experience. Nitro builds back then are almost like real cars with motors running on fuel and multiple gear transmissions. As if I do not have enough hobbies already and lack of spare time, a modern RC build would be indeed fun. Mid mid-life crisis perhaps (excuse to tell the wife) šŸ˜‚

Anyone know if Tamiya has plans for an FL5?

I (did) have my eyes on a Tamiya Subaru Brat... a dozen years ago (2014). I lost track / moved on, and never ended up buying an RC car.

They sell the body only? Seems like a kit to me

Yes but it’s on the site if you type fl5 type r but not in stock yet and when I asked about it they said they have no plans to ship it to the U.S. as there is a 50% tariff . I am working on trying to get a U.S retailer to stock them so I will come back when it happens but will take some time . I am thinking 1-2 months .

They do offer a finished painted body shell and unpainted as well. I'm going to to see if I can source a painted body shell so I can focus on building my own 1/10 chassis. That's part of the fun in owning RC cars! I've a lot to read up on. New technology VS the nitro days.

That's a cool buggy you got there! I'm not going to miss the days where the nitro car just won't start and troubleshooting takes forever. How long do the batteries usually last?

Thanks! Run time really depends on the battery type and motor a long with weight of the car/Truck and scale . Also if you’re racing or just bashing around.
Loved the smell of nitro and sound but it’s messy and yeah hated it when they would stall out . I’d be in the middle of a club race and sometimes it would flame out.
Electrics are pretty much faster then gas now Sad to say even with full scale šŸ™‰

I ordered the Carisma FL5 and a transparent body, and built my own red one.
