Hey guys,

I just did the swap to the oem alcantara steering wheel, and after hooking up the battery, i have a persistent CEL...i thought it was maybe just a side effect from unplugging the battery, but i drove about 10 miles since then, and it's still there. Any ideas? My car is 100% stock.

Did it ever come back? I’m running into the same issue right now.

My guess is that the ECU wasn’t happy with the temporary interruption in power and disconnection of the air bag, but it’s fine now. I’m going to replace my steering wheel hopefully this weekend. Fingers crossed.

So, I decided to replace my steering wheel this weekend, but ran into a minor snag and I can’t find a clear answer. Is a new bolt needed? Or just put a little bit of blue Loctite on the old bolt and reuse it?

My alcantara steering wheel came with a new bolt, sorry I can’t help you there. Maybe you can call Honda and ask what they recommend?

Just reuse the bolt if yours did not come with a new one. I don't think you need Loctite, but I'm sure it doesn't hurt. The torque specs should be around 36 lbf-ft I believe.

Thank you! @Chilly613
Yeah, I watched a few vids and nobody used Loctite and only 1 guy mentioned that you can use Loctite if you want to. Everyone reused their old bolt too. No one mentioned torque specs ; “Just (re)tighten it as much as possible.”🤣 I’ve never done this before and want to be sure I’m doing things right, but I guess none of these details are super critical? It just seems odd.

Thanks @KRUzer . I have a feeling that Honda would say to get a new bolt. Reading around, it seems that manufacturers recommend this as the new bolt comes with Loctite already on it. I guess it’s a liability thing…even though it is highly unlikely the bolt will loosen (if it is torqued correctly) anyway. It must be sort of a belt + suspenders sort of thing.
