I have changed my oil numerous times at the dealer and noticed they always overfill the shit, and I have to siphon it out. Today I went into a smaller shop and had the oil changed again, and they told me they put in about 5.4 liters or 5.4 quarts. After I drove back took another look at the oil its still over the max line.
At this point, I'm starting to believe I'm not using the dipstick correctly. The oil pressure is approx 20 psi at around 175 F. The image I provided is from another person because with the new oil its almost impossible to take a picture of. The purple line is the oil level if I don't fully push the dipstick (dipstick is resting on the 1st o-ring, not all the way inserted). The red line is the oil level if I fully insert the dipstick all the way to the end. All of these readings are done based on the owner's manual, where I run the car to operating temps, shut off, and check the oil approximately after 3 minutes.

have you checked the back side of the dip stick usually the front side( the side facing the windshield) is very inaccurate. But if that’s the case it might just be the horrible dipstick or something else. Should I siphon some out or is it just inaccurate reading?

I couldn't tell you truthfully. All i can give you is the info i have - i have not changed my oil and it came like this from the dealership new. If they are telling you they put in the exact amount it calls for and it shows up on the dipstick at the same spot and different places are changing the oil - id be inclined to think the dipstick is the problem. I wont be doing anything to mine and hopefully someone else has more information or some insight on this for us.

The capacity with oil filter change is 5.4L =5.7 qt.
You need the car at operating temperature, turn off the car, then wait 3 minutes and check the level.

If you wait longer it will be higher as more oil will drip from the internal surfaces to the pan.

The dipstick is also straight garbage and almost impossible to read FYI

Yea I think I have tried driving it up to temp and waited approx 3 min like the manual said but it’s still slightly high. The small shop said they put about 5.7 quarts which is the recommended amount but the dip stick will always will be fully submerged. I just don’t want my crank to whip the level because the entire dip stick being in the oil is quite concerning for me.

The owners manual says 5.7 US quarts for an oil and filter change. My lipstick is slightly above the high mark after adding 5.5 US quarts.
Interesting because I used to siphon out about 1/2 of a quart of oil out after every dealership oil change (so about 5.2qt left in the pan) and it’s usually spot on the max line on the dip stick following proper measurement from the manual. At this point I just don’t know what to trust lol. The actual 5.7 quarts(being too much) or the stupid dip stick that might be inaccurate lol. Should I go back to the small shop and tell them to train a bit out?

TLDR: Check after driving, let the car sit on a flat surface for 3 minutes, it should be between the two dots. If you check it after spirited driving it might be higher (that's how I read it at least).

Along these lines, is anyone overfilling for performance driving/HPDEs? It's common practice on some other vehicles (BMW), but I haven't seen anyone mention it for FL5s.
