Hello All,
Need some advice and recommendations of on how to go about putting a rear fog light on USDM fl5 to comply with UK IVA rules:
Background
I imported my personal car to the UK through My Car Import, and it is currently sitting at their warehouse near Derby awaiting the installation of a rear fog light and I believe headlight adjustment that is needed for USDM cars.
Their team informed me that installing a rear fog light on a US spec FL5 is not as straightforward as initially expected. They suggested two possible solutions:
1) Taking the car to a Honda main dealer to complete the necessary work, which involves adding a stalk, changing the wiring harness, taillight, what not, etc.
2) Installing a front fog light and route the wiring to rear fog light through it.
I'd prefer to avoid taking the car to a Honda main dealer, as I've had some very bad experiences with Honda dealers in the USA. I'm also not particularly a fan of the proposed front fog light solution, as I'd prefer a cleaner and maintain the oem look.
If anyone has gone through a similar situation, has brilliant ideas that I can throw at the workshop staff or know a workshop that can do it the easier way here in UK, do comment or DM me.

Thanks for the help!
Here's a link to the video the workshop sent me detailing the work needed for rear fog install:

I've hard wired aftermarket fog lights (Cibie and Hella) in the past, before Canbus. Added power terminals directly to the battery and added an interior switch on the dash, replacing a switch blank. An optional relay was added to turn on/off depending on headlight choice.
Honda dealer might be your best bet if you don't hard wire, but even they might not have USA Canbus knowledge to know differences. Also, rear fog light will need hard wire between it and the control module.
I was in Canada last week and noticed Civic's there have fog lights integrated into the headlight assy.

Yes, thanks for this detailed reply.
I checked with Honda UK and they do not want to get into replacing wiring, adding stalk, etc on a US fl5.
Do you have details on how to wire the reat fog light directly to the battery, using relay and a on/off switch button in interior? Any wiring diagrams, etc is appreciated

Search Youtube on " how to install Hella foglights". Looks like several videos are there.
When I bought the Cibie and Hella sets, they came with detailed instructions, including options.
If wired direct to the battery, make sure there is a fused link the the circuit. Good luck.

Wiring is often over complicated. It's similar to an engine. An engine needs air, fuel, fire, and vroom.

now, what do lights need? Power, Ground, switch.

Power - anything w/ 12v
Ground - any chassis (-)
Switch - relay / physical switch.

New or old car
12v + Relay + Fuse + Switch = a fail safe circuit to power just about anything.

Is it possible you could something like this?

FL5 Rear DRL LED

They're wired to the rear taillight and wouldn't require an additional stalk be added. They would simply replace the reflectors in the lower section of the rear bumper.

Should be relatively easy to add

Yes I did write to them about doing it this way, I hope the get back to me soon and it seems a very straightforward setup as well.
I don't know what they were trying to tell me about the Canbus thing and not being able to just put a rear fog light easily.

They have the below crap IVA rules in UK that say how and when the rear fog lamps should operate. Hence the workshop is finding it a bit tricky to integrate the rear fog lights with the Canbus situation. Honda of UK says 'This is a USDM car, NOT MY PROBLEM'

Here are rules for the rear fog to pass IVA:
To pass the UK Individual Vehicle Approval (IVA) test, rear fog lights must meet strict operational and positioning standards that differ significantly from standard MOT rules.
Operational Rules
• Headlight Interlock: The rear fog lamp(s) must only illuminate when the dipped beam, main beam, or front fog lamps are active. They cannot be turned on with just the side/position lights or independently via an ignition switch.
• Latching / Reset Rule: Once the main lighting is switched off, the rear fog lamp must stay off—even if the other lights are turned back on—until it is manually switched on again.

I see. This does get a bit tricky. It will definitely need access to the CAN network or you'll need to add a CAN interface for the independent rear fog.
