2005+ Honda Odyssey spare 135/80-17
Very close to the stock tire diameter, 5x120 uses the same lug nuts, will not clear the front brakes but works fine on the rear. Common in junk yards. Around $25 at Pick and Pull.

Went to my local Pick and Pull to find a spare, jack etc. There were around 6 Odysseys there and a couple still had spares. Jacks were rare though. After looking in 45+ Hondas I found one jack that looked OK. Also got a lug wrench from an Odyssey (22mm) and it just clears the stock rim to remove the lugs.

Not bad of an option. I got lucky and scored a never used Acura RL spare and jack kit from a wrecked RL. Best $45 I've ever spent at the pick a part. You have to use a hood prop rod to reach in the backseat opening and flip the switch to get the trunk open though as they are electonic and batteries get pulled at the yard.

Originally I was looking for an RL but there were just none locally. Lots of Odysseys though so this option should work for a lot of people.

Anyway, you should not run a spare tire in the front. The LSD will suffer.
Honda had this warning in the owners manual of their vehicles that came with spare tires and have a Limited Slip Differential.

This is a great option and I'm going to start looking for my trunk. I was just about to spend $500 for one of those Modern Spares, but this is a much more economical option and certainly "good enough" for the number of times you are likely to use it. From some preliminary looking, I can see the minivan option is more plentiful, but the Acura RL option is a alloy wheel rather than a steel wheel if that matters. Can anyone tell me what year RL spare tires can be used? Thanks in advance.

Don't forget that with the RL spare, you'll need 5 new lugs for it as it is not the same as the OE type R lugs.
You can check out my thread on the Integra forums...

I haven't had much luck finding local "pick and pay" salvage yards, but I see a lot of Odyssey spare tires on eBay, many with that great foam donut inside that holds the factory jack and lug wrench, etc. I think I'm going to go that route and then just pick up a storage bag on amazon. I already have the hold down net in my trunk and I'm just going to tuck this assembly into the corner of my trunk. I've done a similar set up for my diesel car that has a DEF tank where my spare tire should be. It does steal some trunk space, but its tied down so it doesn't move around and I like the piece of mind having the spare tire and jack. eBay prices seem to trend below $200 for tire and jack, etc. which is way less than the Modern Spare price of $500 for the Civic Type R. Am I missing anything? If the jack from the Odyssey can lift a minivan, it certainly should be able to lift the Civic. Will I need to buy a new lug wrench?

$200 sounds expensive but if it comes with a jack and lug wrench shipped then I guess it's not too bad. Much cheaper if you can find one yourself in a junk yard. I found several Odyssey spares and picked the newest one (tire date). Jacks were rare, I found one kind of rusty Odyssey jack and oiled it up when I got home. I think people pick the cars when they first come in and get the jacks. It did work on my Type-R, I jacked it up with the Odyssey jack, used the Odyssey lug wrench and put the Odyssey spare on and drove it around. Tire pressure warning came on but it worked fine.

I modified the foam under the hatch floor to fit the jack in there. Wrapped up the lug wrench in an old towel and put that under the floor too. I plan on strapping the spare down using the tie downs in the hatch.

Oh, thanks so much for testing this all for me and the rest of us! Now I can confidently pick up a complete Odyssey spare tire set and know that I can use the jack and lug wrench. $200 all in is still a bargain compared to the Modern Spare option. I'm going for it!

I Just wanted to report a very good eBay salvage yard in Utica New York called JDP Autoparts. They sold me an unused 2012 date code tire on a Honda Odyssey wheel with the foam insert holding the Jack, lug wrench and jack handle for $170 including shipping. The package arrived in 3 days and was carefully packaged and exactly as shown in the photos. That's a significant discount over the ~$500 Modern Spare price and I'm very satisfied. I'm going to splurge and buy a storage bag on Amazon for $20 and bungie cord it all into the corner of my trunk. This will be my third car without a spare tire using this type of solution and I've found it to work just fine for me. Not as elegant as some of the solutions I've seen in this forum, but effective.
