I just started having the most heinous noise, only while moving. I’d imagine it’s a rock in the brakes? Was driving 20mph in a residential area and suddenly sounded like I was dragging something metal. How do I go about checking and removing the rock? If that’s what it is?

Yes this is almost certainly the issue. It happens to me constantly. Where I live the roads are full of small rocks that are the perfect size to get stuck between the rotor and the brake dust shield. Usually they fall out on their own. Putting the car in reverse usually does the trick for me. Sometimes though nothing works and I have the pull the wheel off and use a thin tool to dislodge the rock.

This one I had to remove myself last week.

Thanks! Looks like I’ll have to take the wheel off too!

Happens to me all the time. Driving over raised pavement markers/lane separators will help to jiggle them loose and fall out on their own.

That happened to me before. Sometimes this works, not always. You can take your car to an empty interstate and just floor it from 10mph all the way to at least 70mph.

Sometimes that will dislodge whatever is stuck. Works sometimes not always.

Had to take the wheel off. Drive it on ramps, jack it up from front and then put the stand under it. Don’t trust sticking my head in there with just the jack!
