i'm not sure why the EPA has a problem with it. It's the same engine used in the base model, basically (in terms of MPGs). It gets great fuel efficiency. what's the problem?
I doubt it is the EPA that Honda is worried about..The 1.5 litre turbo is a gernade. Honda dealer shops coast to coast have talked about the major number of 1.5 liters being replaced under warrenty..due to blown head gaskets, melted pistons, ruined bearings, poor cooling..the 1.5 is not reliable as Honda reliability goes. The 2.0 litre engine has had a few problems, but is much better than the 1.5.

A family member works for the Big 3 and Europe is forcing big changes in gas turbo engines for emissions. This can result in rev limiting engines to a fraction of the current redline. Probably okay for CVT cars, but won't fly in an Si. I suspect Eupope is the reason the Si will be unavailable, since our EPA regulations were recently paused or rolled back.

As for 1.5T reliability, at least one tech in this forum stated the problems are mostly with the non-Si cars, CRV's in particular. A service writer at my dealer said the same. Said the small engine is overworked in the larger, heavier CRV. His personal car was an Si and he was very happy with it.

They finally admitted and extended the warranty
