Hey Guys I know this is a little off topic but just seeing if there are other R owners that have undergone Hernia surgery. I am about 2 weeks post op from getting an open left inguinal hernia surgery with mesh. Recovery has been a little slow and unfortunately the surgeon never tell you what to truly expect. First week was hell with black and blue balls and hobbling around the house. This week is getting better but it sure sucks not being able to do much. I find it most aggravating to sneak into my garage and not being able to drive my fl5 yet. Just missing driving her and hoping to get back to normal soon. Sorry for the long winded post. Just looking for other’s experiences and when they were able to navigate the high seat bolsters and engage the clutch again and get back to normal life. Looking forward to hearing from some of you that have gone through this before and that there is light at the end of the tunnel 👍

I've had 2 hernia surgeries and neither were fun. Prob have to go back to get the 1st one redone as it looks like it came back. Pain will be there for a while. You will prob even have random flare ups in the groin as the pressure comes back while the muscle is rebuilding. I didn't have the R during either of those times so hope you will be able to sit back in the seat soon.

Thank you. It definitely has not been fun. Sorry to hear you have to have one redone. Hoping for the best for you. I am definitely not rushing the recovery. I don’t want to go through this again lol.

Yes the bathing sucks too. That first shower though was great. It’s the little things that make you feel human again. It’s amazing how much we take things for granted in good health.

Man, I've been there, done that, so I can definitely relate. Only thing is... my 3rd and final inguinal surgery was near the end of last century, when I was about 20 years old.
I'm sure the surgery methods and tech have changed a bit since then. Then again, maybe they haven't.
Recovery methods, however, probably haven't changed much at all.

1.) Rest.
2.) Rest.
3.) Rest!!!

Seriously, rest. You do not want to risk any part of that mesh, or staples, or stitching pulling loose from anywhere on the inside or outside of your body. What may seem to be low key and minimal movements could potentially break loose even the smallest corner of that mesh, which you may not notice, until months or years later, when you're back in surgery to have it fixed, again. That't what happened to me in the '90s in high school, when I got back into running (and watching Beavis and Butthead on MTV while Mom was at work) a little too soon after my first hernia surgery.
I would stay away from comedy for a while as well. No, I'm not joking. I seriously think watching Beavis and Butthead (Hey! It was brand new back then, and I was a high school kid) may have caused some problems. A good, hard laugh can really stretch out your diaphragm, which can aggravate the areas of surgery.

So no funny TV shows, movies, stand up comedy, or internet memes for a good month or so. Tell your friends and family to save you the funny shit to watch after you recover.

I don't want to Doom Scare you too much here. Take what I say with a grain of salt.
Just be aware that every little twist and pull down there that is more than necessary for your recovery could potentially come back to bite you in the future. Even pressing on those three little ole harmless pedals in the car could cause aggravation.

Focus on rest and recovery, for longer than you think you need. Keep pressure, including inside out pressure from gravity, off of your left side. Lie on your back and maybe a bit on your right side.
Read that heavy, and probably very unfunny, novel in the corner of your bookshelf that you've always wanted to read but never "had the time".

Also, just as you don't want to laugh too much, you don't want to be angry too much... so... probably a good idea to stay away from politics while you recover as well.

Your Type R will be there, waiting for you, patiently, and welcome you with open seat when you return.

Cheers.

Thank you for that. I will definitely avoid comedy’s lol. I had to cough once and had a sneeze and that was bad enough. I am definitely taking it easy. That’s horrible that you have had 3. I couldn’t imagine going through this 3 times. I just turned 50 and I learned Im not as strong as I used to be. After recovering Im staying away from the heavy stuff. I don’t want to do this again. 👍
