My car, 2025 Honda Civic hatchback sport, and I took a good long ride today. Here’s my question. Before we went I decided to pop the hood and actually check all the fluids and everything’s general location. It’s surprisingly simple. When I closed the hood I dropped it around 12” from the rubber gasket and it made a lot of noise compared to my accord so I opened it and did the same again with the same noise. Is this pretty much normal for civics in general or could I damage the hood or hood latch from dropping it to close from too high. I had a Mazda hood latch break on me many years ago and it destroyed the hood and windshield. I DONT want to repeat that deal. How high is acceptable to drop civic hoods from when closing? I want to make sure it’s closed but definitely don’t want to break anything. What are you guys experiences, recommendations? Thank

I can’t imagine you’re going to do any damage dropping it from 12”. Hard to say why it seems so loud without hearing it. Maybe the rubber stops are not adjusted properly, but that seems doubtful.

Whatever height allows the hood to get enough force to close without having to press on it afterwards.

The car isn't made of glass and it's brand new with a warranty, you'll be fine.

Thanks, maybe it just seems loud because everything else on the car is so friggin quiet. Body panels all line up really well and she runs awesome so far. I can’t wait to put 600 miles on her, change the oil and see what she’s made of. I’m not expecting much because she only has 150 horsepower but I do expect her to handle well. I’ll just keep closing the hood as I did today and enjoy driving her😊

Just don’t want to break her because I know warranty work always gets pushed to the back. I beat the hell out of my f4i but she handled everything I could throw at her. I maintained her meticulous though. I expect yhe civic to be just as reliable as well with proper maintenance 💪

12" is definitely no big deal. Once I had a dealer tech told me that that is the only way some of the hoods (on new cars) would close.
