Is anyone DIY'ing their headlight PPF?

I DIY'd mine using just 3M pro series bulk sheet. It was difficult because I didn't want to remove the bumper. It turned out pretty good, but has a couple small bubbles.

When I re-do it, I want to try pre-cut PPF, but my concern is whether the vendor is using quality film that will come off clean when its time to replace it years from now, like 3M does.

I found a vendor named "Origin Motorsports" selling pre-cuts. I asked what kind of film they use and they said "our own brand", which they claim comes off clean.

Anyone used these guys? Or have recommendations?

XPEL sells pre cuts. Find the part number and start shopping. I would recommend just having a shop do it. You will have your choice of films: SunTek, XPEL, STEK and you don't have to worry about installation or fighting XPEL on warranty if there's an issue later on. You're not saving much if anything DIY. I cannot recall how much I paid, but I know it wasn't much. I'll look for the receipt later and update this post.

Truth be told, taking it somewhere is not as much about cost as it about letting someone else work on my car.

But if you do find your receipt, I am curious to see how much it costs to have a place do it. I assume $200ish.

Ha! I'm not as smart as I look.

Since posting this, I found a few places that offer 3M or other name brand pre-cuts, and they come with "installation insurance" in case I mess up and need a replacement.

I'll let you guys know who I go with and how it went.

Closing the loop on this. I found the receipt. I paid $100 for XPEL Ultimate FUSION on the headlights. It would've been a little less for the standard XPEL Ultimate film. This was also done as a one-off and not part of the initial, larger-scope ppf job, as I had changed the headlights on the car from USDM to EU months later and needed film coverage.

I've been thinking about doing the same. Please let us know how the installation goes as I've heard it may be a challenge to wrap around the convex corner of the headlights? Thanks.

The issue with these unknown films is the horrible adhesive residue left behind when you go to remove them a few years down the road. I've removed the Lamin-X films on my previous cars and it was a nightmare getting rid of the residue.
