I’ve ordered twice now through Blackhawk Japan for the JDM OEM accessories. I have yet to order any Spoon parts. Definitely thinking about it since it’s a lot cheaper. For the past decade I’ve been buying Spoon parts direct from GoTuning the distributor for Spoon USA. Is it possible that the Spoon parts through BHJ is not real?

Washed the car and took off the rear door panel to check the ohm measurements of the drivers and see how they are mounted.

I've measured all of the drivers excepting the 3" pair in the hatch, based on what I've seen they are 99% 4ohm. ALL drivers EXCEPT the front door 6.5" drivers are 4ohm. The front door 6.5" drivers are 2ohm. Would be nice if this factoid could be put in a FAQ but it doesn't look like anything has been built yet.

Installed the H&R Sport Lowering Springs for the FL5. Goal was not to be too low since I daily it and to ensure I don’t f-up the amazing suspension from the factory. Bought them from Unity Performance. It rides much the same as before. No strange noises, crashing or bobbling front to back. Love it so far.

While I had it apart I also added a protectant again for all those aluminum suspension bits 😁

Possible? Yes. Who knows and no guarantees, buying through authorized dealers as least gives you the peace of mind. Pricing is more and we always have people saying can we price match but we never do. We have to deal with shipping from overseas, customs, duties, taxes. Keep supporting GoTuning :). You can buy from them or us, dealers for Go Tuning to support Spoon USA.

Maybe it's authentic, maybe it's a facsimile. They're authentic until I find out otherwise. FWIW, I had the Spoon Air Cleaner from Blackhawk Japan and a Spoon Air Cleaner from GoTuning Unlimited in my possession simultaneously. The packaging was identical, down to the paper insert with kanji/kana characters, the color on the box, and the plastic the filter was wrapped in. Same with the filter itself. Same dimensions, same texture of the filter media, same translucent effect when held up to light, same logo and positioning of the logo on the top of the filter surround. The singular thing I was able to discern as a difference is there was no Spoon hologram sticker on the front of the box over the right corner of the label that displays Part Name, Part No., Quantity, and Lot.

That’s why I have yet to order Spoon parts from BHJ, only Honda accessories. I don’t know. I’m torn…

Swapped rear bulbs for LEDs last week, installed Proclip phone mount

Over the weekend, did some antiseize application on some rear suspension bolts to prepare for winter, pulled front strut pins and maxed out the front camber:

Did you use the JDM accessories LED? If so, doesn’t it not sit well since the base is much wider?

For the strut pins, what did you use to pull and once you pull it, does it require alignment?

There is no need to be torn, I'm sure if they weren't authentic Spoon would have made a statement by now.

Lasfit was the LED I used, all the bulbs fit fine no issue.

The instruction for pulling the pin is to use a nut with a bunch of washer under the threaded part(washer stack has to be higher than the unthreaded portion of the pin) and just tighten the nut until the pin is pulled up. The nut I used was just the strut nut itself.

I used longacre toe-plates to check the before toe and once pulled and maxed out the camber I checked it again and I needed to basically shorten both sides by about 1 full turn of the adjusters on the tie-rods(6 faces). About to 1-2mm of the accuracy I can hold with the tools I got. I erred on the side of slightly toe-out. The stock alignment as per my measurement was close to 0 toe. Not sure what the spec from factory was. Afterward on the road the steering seems straight.

I'm not here to convince you, but consider the following:
  • Why are you comfortable buying OEM Honda accessories from BlackHawk Japan? Those could be counterfeit as well. I presume if counterfeit Spoon parts could be manufactured, couldn't they do the same for OEM Honda parts & accessories?
  • I'm not a counterfeit goods expert, but most counterfeit goods are for products with a higher demand and thus can be sold in mass quantities. Think Louis Vuitton bags in the Damier pattern, CHANEL bags, Bose headphones, Beats headphones, Rolex watches, perfumes, etc. A counterfeiter's highest and best use wouldn't be to deploy resources to manufacture low-volume niche products like a Spoon Rigid Collar Kit for example. How many of them could they really sell? 50 a year? And if they did counterfeit a Spoon Rigid Collar Kit, how could the quality be indistinguishable from the real thing and be shipped to BlackHawk Japan and then to you within two weeks? Doubtful they'd have inventory of such a low volume niche product in a warehouse stacked to the ceiling ready to go at a moment's notice. So that means they'd have to make it, ship it to BlackHawk Japan, and then BlackHawk Japan ships it to you all within a two-week time period.
  • And, also, if they were hawking fake products, wouldn't it be known at this point? In the age of the Internet, everyone loves to finger a liar or a cheat. That hasn't happened yet.
As I said before, the parts could be real, the parts could be fake. I don't know. But until I find evidence to suggest they're fake, I'll go with: they're authentic.

Yeah I get you and that’s why I’m torn. The problem with fakes is that there are fakes of everything. It’s not just moving quantity as long as there a good enough margin, there will be people seeing it as an opportunity. I’m likely to give them business until I decide otherwise.
