I was in the Hocking Hills area of Ohio on Tuesday, and decided to get a little footage of the area in my Type R. Apparently, some Honda Engineers had the same idea, as I passed a convoy of three cars clearly in testing. The first car was a 2020 Civic Si. The two remaining vehicles were camouflaged 2022 sedans with the telltale DRL signature exposed. I believe the two trail vehicles to be 2022 Si mules benchmarking off of the lead 2020 Si.

Great shots. The proportions of the new sedan looks great! Did you happen to get a look at their rear in your mirror? Curious what the exhaust tips setup is.

I didn't get a close view of the rear, but I couldn't make out the contemporary HDMI port for what it's worth. That said I'd expect them to be running a pretty unrefined straight tailpipe on these for camo purposes.

Definitely Si version with a trunk spoiler.

Compared to standard model without spoiler from this set - https://www.civicxi.com/forum/threa...a-civic-sedan-spied-testing-in-germany.49730/

They both definitely had a low-rise trunk spoiler like the Si sedan. Hard to see from the camera angle but I remember the trunk spoilers standing out as they passed. I also noticed that massive intercooler opening as compared to the standard mule and smaller wheel arch gap. You can tell as the three cars come through the frames that they've all got a similar sporty stance. There's also some sort of hump above and rearward of the front fender running horizontal that doesn't seem to be on the other cars.

Hocking Hills is only about 100 miles from the Marysville Plant, it's on the opposite side of Columbus. If those test mules were built in Marysville, Hocking Hills is a plausible distance for test drives that last a good part of the workday and end back at the plant. I wonder if those cars have been spotted in the Columbus area?

Honda America R&D is directly adjacent to that Marysville plant as well, which is no doubt where these were from. That said, I strongly doubt they drove those through Columbus on their way to the hills (which would intersect). I'm guessing they pulled them out of a trailer somewhere once they were in the area, or they may have taken some remote state roads down there and back instead of traveling the direct route. I only saw them once in the 4 days I was down there. It is technically the "off-season" for that area and pretty sparsely occupied right now. I'm sure most of the hikers they passed didn't give them a second thought.

I messed around today with the original footage which is more clear than the upload and got a few more screen grabs. This shows a little more of the detail, but I doubt there is much more to be gleaned than what I originally posted. I'm still confident these were Si mules from the overall athletic and low-slung stance and details like the rear spoiler and lower rocker sills. I also noticed that one appeared to have the fog light areas exposed, yet the other had that area camo-taped off.

Here is the best profile I can get of the rear spoiler off this Go-Pro footage. It was definitely a lower mount, and had a distinctive rearward radius curve, like a "ducktail" ala the current Supra. It did not have the little down slanted winglet ends that the current Si Sedan has.

Doesn't look like it's going to retain the full LED headlights. That's kind of sad.

I don't see that being the case... Looks to me they'll be either full LED with a different section for the highbeam or possibly having an HID partition for some sort or revised highbeam output pattern.

Sadly no hatch... but this early in the game doesn't mean much, the hatch may have a staggered release compared to the sedan. It just makes sense to make a hatch Si with the coupe gone. Honda would be leaving money on the table to not make one.

Two mules is interesting however... in a recent interview, while not confirming, a rep from honda said the possibility of an auto optioned Si isn't out of the question... wonder if one mule was the manual and the other could've been an auto/dct equipped tester.

From what I can tell, I like the new look. I'm hoping the Si gets a version of the 2.0T from the CTR or even the Accord, along with a dual clutch/auto option. With all the traffic in the Bay Area, you can't really enjoy a manual any more.....unless you get up at 5AM on a weekend. I'm a buyer if these things happen.

Better chance of the new Acura compact sedan getting the 2.0 turbo than the Si. That would put the Si too close to the CTR.

A slightly detuned 2.0T in a new RSX type S sedan with an upscale interior is a real possibility given the MDX and TLX type S variants. I’d happily over pay for that vehicle if it comes to pass. There’s a lot of room between the Si and CTR price wise for that vehicle.

As for the Si. With the 11th gen Civic getting a way more mature and conservative exterior, I’m very interested to see how they differentiate the Si because the 10th was a fairly aggressive design relative to the non-Si models.

Its a good year to be a Honda/Acura fan.
