Build quality issues with OEM carbon fiber spoiler

I want that damn spoiler bad. I need to call Ike Honda and see what it sells for now after the $ increase. Afraid to roll the dice on shipping though

I believe the MSRP is $2295. The AllDiscountParts price was around $1900. Get it at your local dealer to avoid shipping risks, plus you can inspect it in front of them and reject it if it's damaged before paying. Or buy from ADP, save a few hundred bucks, but risk having to send it back because it got damaged in shipping. It literally comes from Honda in a bubble wrap bag dropped into a huge box that's mostly empty space and could easily be crushed during handling. A local dealer won't have the shipping risk.

There are other online stores that are actual dealers and are selling it for below MSRP, but I will say that ADP gave me a return label and would have fully refunded the original price + shipping had I chosen return vs exchange with no fuss whatsoever. I guess it comes down to how much you value your time.

The QR code on the wing and the bag look identical to me, save for differences due to the printer used. I'm not sure how it could be "full carbon", the CF has to be wrapped around something to form it before sealing it in resin. Not to mention something has to hold the nuts in place. The seller is a legit dealer that got the part from Honda, and the issue was a combination of damage from shipping and manufacturer QC errors.

There are seams at the 2 junctions between the horizontal and vertical panels (on each end). I don’t see how else they would be able to form this design in one finished piece otherwise. The issue is that the seams are huge in OP’s example. They shouldn’t look like that. I know mine didn’t. I very highly doubt this is a rep spoiler. The color and weave has not been exactly replicated anywhere that I’ve seen and he got it from an entirely legitimate source. It’s just poor QC…like many things these days.

This makes sense, but then it points to an official Honda dealer selling rep parts at near official Honda prices.

Yeah I worded that horribly while I was half asleep... Anyway, my guess is that the black gaps in the pictures (made worse by taking the pictures with a very bright raking light) are parts of an epoxy/shredded carbon structural layer. So yes, it's not a wrap over a fiberglass substrate, but it's definitely 2 separate top and bottom pieces joined by epoxy. Somebody just did a horrible job of cutting the CF at the seams when they were molding the parts.

The one he's making is a single solid surface. The OEM CTR CF wing is a hollow part made from joining 2 or more sections together, hence the seam. Anybody who owns one can back me up on that. If you own one without a seam on the front and back edges I'm curious what manufacturer and week of manufacture it is, because I would love to be wrong about my conclusion being "If you buy the OEM part, you may end up with a QC reject". But that would mean a legit reputable dealer is knowingly and actively committing fraud which is extremely unlikely to say the least.

Also, dear god, drilling and cutting bare CF with an oscillating tool in short sleeves and no respirator is a HORRIBLE idea. Don't do that. Wear proper PPE if you're messing with this stuff.
