There's literally no reason for Honda to invest any further in engine tech. They have committed in Europe to going hybrid and electric only from 2023. That means this may be the last new gasoline car generation for the US as well before they go Hybrid only in the further future. It's safe to assume they are nearly the same as existing engines. This is the finale for Honda's petro era. They are already planning to launch 2 full electric car models in 2024 in NA.
Don’t believe that BS, the US market isn’t asking for EVs, it’s just the leftist media and governments pushing EVs. The US is the biggest market for Honda. They sell 15x as many cars to the US, they don’t care about Europe.

...they don’t care about Europe.
That's not true. You know they offered a manual transmission 6 speed 1.5 Turbo Honda HRV in Europe for several years? I know peeps were trying to import that to United states since we ditched the manual for the HRV back in 2015. It's very strange how some options are only available in certain areas, and they do whatever it takes to prevent that from being available elsewhere it sucks...

Only the CVT was registered with CARB so the manual was dropped. It looks like the manual transmission will only be available with the SI for this gen. I wonder if the new SI can also be optioned with the CVT.

The closing of Swindon and ever shrinking market share means Europe is a low priority for Honda, so we can’t make predictions about our market based on what they do in Europe. Combustion engines are Honda’s bread and butter, to slow their development would be suicidal for Honda.

Could be the manual (for Sport and maybe Sport Touring) is coming next year with the Si. Makes sense, no need to offer a manual right away.

Since the manual will exist in Si form, they don’t save much by deleting it from the standard model.

Europe is not the only market for Honda. Asia and China combined match and exceed US market for them. Most Asian countries are pushing hard for electrification as well.

Otherwise you are in denial, the combustion engine is going to be killed off by everyone within a decade or two. It won't be instant or overnight, and the Hondas with engines will being sold will be around for many many more years. But at this point, there's not much point investing into improving those engines, when the competition is also moving to hybridize and electrify.

They are partnering with GM for GM to manufacture the electric drive trains for them starting in 2024, unfortunately they are going suicidal :/

Seriously, a fantastic electric drive train will blow any combustion engine out of the water in performance with the only downside being you won't get the compensating for size sound effects.

Yeah, China has no domestic oil but has tons of domestic coal, so electric cars make a lot of sense for the Chinese government, that’s why they’ve been massively subsidizing EVs. When they cut the avg $8k subsidy in half in 2019, EV sales tanked. At 4% of sales in China and 2% in the US, they’re what the government wants not what the people want.

If Honda stays true to Si heritage, USDM cars will be manual only and there won't be an autotragic or CVT. JDM Si's have usually been available with both manual and automatic transmissions; this link shows some info about what models/grade are available with what transmission.

This is the irony of being "green".

Either through legislation that kills jobs in countries with environmental policies in place, or misled goals of adopting EV cars in a place with dirty electricity...
You find that we just end up making the Earth dirtier overall. But, hey, not happening in our backyards anymore!

The story I saw (link below) indicated that the CARB filing was for the sedan - They stopped offering the Civic X sedan with a manual a couple of years ago, so I don't think the CARB filing represents a change from the current Civic X configurations.

If they CARB filing covers the Sport Hatch, then that's different, and very bad news - Does anybody know?
I think it's pretty safe that they'll continue to offer the Si with the 6MT.
