11th Gen Honda Civic 2022 Civic Sedan Production Begins in Canada Screen Shot 2021-05-04 at 9.34.47 AM

All-New 2022 Honda Civic Sedan Begins Production in Canada

  • 11th generation of Honda’s longest running nameplate starts production in Alliston, Ontario
  • Honda of Canada Mfg. has been building Civic continuously for 33 years, longer than any other Honda plant in the world currently producing Civic
  • Most fun to drive and technologically advanced Civic in model’s nearly 50-year history
  • All-new Civic Hatchback will follow the Civic Sedan to market in the coming months, to be built in the U.S. for the first time ever
  • 2022 Civic Sedan arriving to Honda dealerships in North America this summer
Alliston, ON. May 4, 2021 – Arriving at dealerships in North America this summer, Honda has officially commenced production of the all-new, 2022 Honda Civic Sedan at Honda of Canada Mfg. (HCM) in Alliston, Ontario.
The all-new 2022 Honda Civic boasts a clean, modern design paired with a high-tech, human-centered interior, and is equipped with advanced active and passive safety systems. Revealed on April 28, the 11th generation Civic continues the tradition of innovation, design leadership and class-leading driving dynamics, and will be built by skilled and experienced production associates using a number of new state-of-the-art processes.

Continuing 35 Years of North American Manufacturing
Civic has been built in North America for 35 years with nearly 11 million units produced in the U.S. and Canada. HCM has been building the Honda Civic Sedan continuously for 33 years, longer than any other Honda plant in the world currently producing Civic. The 11th-generation will continue that legacy with production of the Civic Sedan in Alliston, Ontario, and for the first time, the Civic Hatchback will be manufactured in the U.S., at the company's Greensburg, Indiana plant. All Civic production in North America will use domestic and globally-sourced parts.
As Honda's longest-running automotive nameplate, North Americans have purchased more than 14.2 million Civics since 1973. Every Honda Civic Sedan sold in Canada is manufactured at HCM, Civic is the best-selling passenger car in Canada for 23 straight years and one of the top three best-selling passenger cars in America over the past 48 years. With sales of more than 1.65 million units over the last five years, Civic has been the No. 1 model in the U.S. – car or light truck – with first-time buyers, Millennials, Gen Z and multicultural customers, since the launch of the 10th-gen model in 2015.
The all-new Civic marks a renewed focus on core Honda design values, with a more simple and clean interior design, a direction that also will shape the design of future Honda models. This human-centered approach draws upon Honda’s classic “Man Maximum/Machine Minimum” philosophy that maximizes cabin space for people, while minimizing space required for mechanical components.
“What we have accomplished with the Honda Civic, is taking it to a higher level of sophistication,” says Clement D’Souza, Senior Vice President of HCM. “We’ve created this clean and modern look by using new and first-time Civic technologies, which resulted in the most technologically advanced Civic ever, with a refined and innovative design.”

Manufacturing the 2022 Honda Civic Sedan
HCM engineers leveraged their more than three decades of experience with Civic production to take on a number of new challenges to build the tech-savvy 2022 Civic, including new production technologies and the responsibility to support other Honda plants around the world that will build the 11th generation Civic.
Faced with travel restrictions due to the global COVID-19 pandemic that prevented Honda R&D engineers from Japan and the production engineering team in the U.S. from coming to Canada, HCM engineers took on a larger role in preparing the 2022 Civic Sedan for mass production.
  • Using extensive application of structural adhesive, the team created the most rigid body ever for Civic, advancing it’s fun-to-drive spirit, while reducing weight to help improve fuel efficiency.
  • Civic features a laser brazed roof for the first time, employing Honda’s latest technology for this process that joins the roof to the body side panels for a seamless exterior appearance and an even stronger vehicle body.
  • For the first time, HCM is applying spray foam to hollow portions of the Civic Sedan body structure to reduce noise transmission, helping create the quietest Civic in history.
  • Extensive use of aluminum, including an aluminum hood for the first time in the Civic Sedan, helps enhance fuel efficiency.
  • A new soft and seamless instrument panel surface required an entirely new production process, helping create a simple, clean design to eliminate visual clutter that might reflect in the windshield and enhance the ease of driving.
  • Installation of a new honeycomb mesh panel that stretches across the front of the instrument panel hides air vents while providing an elegant and simple appearance.
  • HCM is building the 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder engine which produces 158HP @6,500 rpm (SAE net) and 138 lb.-ft. of torque @ 4,200 rpm (SAE net).
  • Honda’s Anna Engine Plant in Ohio builds the 1.5-litre turbo 4-cylinder with 180HP @6,000 rpm (SAE net) and 177 lb.-ft. of torque at 1,700 to 4,500 rpm (SAE net)

Welp, first Civic year may have issues here until they work things out. The 2018 Accord which also introduced an aluminum hood suffered from hood flutter well into the 2019 model year.

One would hope, given what happened on the Accord, that Honda would know to look for this on the civic/take steps to make sure it isn't an issue.

What trim level do you think those are? I don't think I see a sunroof, although it's hard to tell from that angle.

Based on the wheels, they're touring models.

A Civic Si with CVT? That should be illegal.
As much as I want an auto option for the Si, I agree... while i don't dislike the CVT as much as some... a sporty trim like the Si should have a DCT or even the 10-speed from the accord... stepped auto with paddles definitely better to preserve the sporty intentions.

I’m hoping they actually offer a DCT or 10-speed otherwise i’m just gonna settle for the Touring.

If they don't offer an auto option Si hatch then I'm keeping my 19' EX coupe and will start doing mods to keep it fun for a few more years until something worth while comes along.

I have a 2013 Ford Escape. I want to go back to a sedan. I know they’re wildly different but I looked at the 2022 Kia Stinger GT1 (fell in love) and Hyundai Sonata N-Line. I’ve wanted an Si for the longest but I can’t drive stick in Atlanta traffic.

This gen of civic (auto hatch si dependent) has had me cross shopping all over the place. The kia stinger was one I looked at... the new Acura ILX replacement is another one I'm excited to see. I looked at the Kia K5 GT model as well. And looked long and hard at a Hyundai Veloster Turbo (but that interior is just sooooo cheap).
