I can almost guarantee there are plenty of cornering grip gains to be worth going to a 285/30/18. If there wasn't why do the serious track guys fit 285s to the FK8? With all of the chassis stiffening improvements from Honda its an almost shoe-in for stickier wider rubber. Unsprung weight wise is fairly marginal if you downsize to an 18'' wheel too since the tire weighs only 4 lbs more. Tramlining will happen, but worth the tradeoff as someone that takes autocross a little too seriouslyFL5 fenders are rolled from the factory, should easily hold 285 but honestly there is diminishing returns. more unsprung weight and tramlining.
