i still have my 2006 EVO IX MR. Chassis - stock for stock- Type R is stiffer. Type R has a better power band. to be honest, stock for stock, they acted similar to each other. The differences really come into view when you push the cars. The AWD Evo is pretty mean to drive at slow speeds - but becomes sublime at high speeds, where the Type R drives great at lower speeds and feels a bit out of it's element at higher speeds.
BTW: I am the original owner of my EVO and Type R. I've had the EVO since brand new off the lot. that was a great day.
