Love how everyone hates on Cali even though they’re a leader in tech, engineering, environment, and art lmao
Yup, It's not a perfect place / state, no where is, but to deny what California has been able to achieve as a single state is simply hubris and bias. It's a wonderful state if you're given the opportunity to really explore it.

The comments and misunderstandings here are pretty funny. You will still be able to order from Tire Rack/Discount online and have them shipped to CA and then installed by ANY tire shop.

They basically called out the manufacturers for making special tires that generate headline numbers for MPG that were not available to the public on resale. 99.9% of drivers walk into Costco or Discount and say give me the cheapest or OEM tires. They don't care about grip, wet weather braking, etc. For the other 0.1% of us we know how to order online, no need to drive to AZ/NV/OR to buy tires.

Tire Rack won't be shipping non-compliant tires to CA, just like Cabelas won't ship high capacity gun magazines to CA.
Driving across the border to buy tires in AZ or NV will work for a while, until CA mandates tire checks at smog inspections.

@zumbooruk sorry man, looks like a few regarded individuals don't like you, that means you're officially a regarded individual too 😲

Sorry if I offended anyone.

PRK is an inside joke between my son and I. He moved to Texas and loves it. He always refers to CA as PRK

Yet apparently he is not the only one: https://www.google.com/search?q="people's+republic+of+Kalifornia"

I had no intention of this thread becoming about CA.

This thread was supposed to be about our tires, future tires options, where to get tires for our cars, etc.

The title was taken directly from Auto Week (with the exception of PRK)

You have it all figured out don't you?
You could be a regarded individual if you want too, Mr optronix 🥺

Sorry if I offended anyone.

Lol I made that as a joke for how another user was saying that whenever they didn't like what people said. PRK is hilarious though, and you know what they say about opinions

It sounds like tire manufacturers will have to figure out how to make the performance tires compliant for CA and that will be the standard for everyone across the board. I doubt they would make a CA only version?

From what I gather, this will be a much bigger issue when the rolling resistance standard is arbitrarily reduced 21% (to 7.2 N/kN) in 2033. The initial standard of 9.1 N/kN will be tough enough for performance tires. I predict new CA vehicles will come with different tire pressure recommendations to squeak by the regs.
Like most technical regulations passed by government, I doubt they had an engineer or scientist on the review board.

And if you know any government engineers you know they fuck up, A LOT. The timelines are so lax, and the pressure is non existent.

At one of my old jobs they were doing construction, and the state engineers in charge didn't do their due diligence to find out that there was a major conduit running through one of the walls. The construction crew ended up drilling through it with a core drill and knocked out power in an essential government building for a whole day while everyone ran around with their heads chopped off. The contractor was cut, and the engineers got a slap on the wrist.

Zero accountability.

So you've already talked to senior leadership at Tire Rack to confirm this? Have you actually read the document or are you just reacting to the news as reported by IG?

I don't think anyone was offended, it's just a tired trope. Every gun-nut-freedom-patriot likes to shit on California.

I just use these forums as an attempt to escape all the incessant partisan bickering and get severely irritated when it shows up in my happy place.

Yes, this is my happy place.
