Yes, I believe 10 years ago Honda was still printing the service intervals in the ownerâs manuals which clearly outlined things that should be done and when. I liked this as it helped me stay on top of things that only need service every few years, like brake fluid.
@VLJ The 2 primary spots for rattles are :
1. The infotainment screen. This isnât too difficult to take apart and mount some felt or other material in areas to stop the rattles/buzzes.
2. The rear view mirror housing. Again, not difficult to mess with and often the rattles/buzzes can be fixed...
@menikmati Right. To legally cover their ass, Honda is saying the Maintenance Minder is not going to work for all scenarios. Enthusiasts (and/or folks who are OCD about their cars) already know this and will change their oil as they see fit. I donât see a problem with it. Not my car. Not my...
If anyone tries to upsell you on additives, fluids, or flushes as part of maintenance service, show them this from Honda corporate.
The attached pdf is the same as the link. Added it just in case the link ever gets broken.

Right! Oil filter canât do anything for carbon build up tho (other than the particles the oil grabs). Catch can is a must for HARD driving (i.e. tracking), but shouldnât be needed for street drivingâŠunless youâre a total maniac, yeah??
I think you meant to say ââŠa buzzzZzzzzillion times more funâŠâ? Couldnât help myself. Hahaha!
I think virtually all of us are dealing with dash rattles to varying degrees. Peoplesâ tolerance to them will vary too. Iâm diagnosing a tapping/rattling sound from the back of my car when I hit abrupt...
@Zone47 Warranty wonât boil down to an oil filter as long as youâre using one that is specified to perform as good or better than OEM. But running the OEM filter should be entirely sufficient for most folks and is one less thing Honda could scrutinize if an engine warranty issue were to come up...
@CaryH 99.9% positive all these CF garnishes are stick-on. Some guys, like Mugen, have a few full replacement parts which youâve probably seen. Theyâre also more $.
@Zone47 Both of those engines you referenced are port injected and are fantastically reliable. Iâve owned both or VERY close variants there-of : 8th gen Si (for almost 14 years) and a â98 (iirc) Tacoma with the 2.7L and 5 spd manual. Both were rock solid and trouble free. However, the OP is...
WelpâŠguess we should shut down this whole forum because no one here is an engineer for Honda, which means no info here is âformallyâ valid let alone helpful.?ââïž
Thatâs right! I completely forgot about Toyotaâs hybrid port/direct system.
Here check this out. This appears to be the âparentâ of the current K20 turbo. It explains some interesting things about Hondaâs DI system and valve timing. Might be something here that helps explain why we arenât...
It definitely doesnât hurt to inspect them periodically. I want to say that valve checks/adjustments, at least for the Type R, are supposed to be done in regular intervals (more often than non-Type-Râs). I want to say itâs every 30k miles, but I canât remember where I saw that. So if folks...
Thatâs my understanding too. When I logged into mygarage online (after digging around and finally finding the Driver Feedback area), it appears that only a few select vehicle models and years are listed as part of this HondaLink thing. My guess is that these vehicles (vehicle owners) were...
@pigfacedalarm Well thatâs the thing. Define âa lot.â We need actual data. Of course those with problems will post the most info, right? But how many are out there with zero problems? I think that number is surely MUCH higher.
It has been said on this forum elsewhere that +R and Sport have the same throttle mapping. Itâs good to see that this indeed appears to be a factual statement. Case closed! Thank you and @Jester04
Whatâs interesting is that thereâs virtually no info about any widespread issues with Hondaâs DI engines. Theyâve been making DI engines for whatâŠover 10 years now? Surely we would see gunk reports stemming from cars that are this old and well over 100k miles, but there are none. This tells me...
It appears to me that this only matters if you use HondaLink (which is where the permissions are). If you donât use HondaLink, then thereâs no problemâŠunless Iâm missing something?
@VLJ No problem.
Regarding catch cans, the only folks using them are those who track their cars regularly. I donât know of anyone here who uses a catch can just for street driving.
