I got an FK8 for MSRP, took a little work but not like the FL5.

so, at least it was feasible... what year was it? was it early on when there was still hype about the FK8... or was it later on?

There is currently 287 FL5’s listed for sale on autotrader nationwide. Also when the ITS is available, FL5’s will become more attainable. Be patient people and stop paying crazy ADM’s, and garbage dealer add ons.

whoa... nice! but, that was still a trek and 3 years after introduction. the caveat, tho, is the pandemic weirdness in the middle of all that. wish we were evaluating a more stable marketplace then, so we could better rely on it as a model. But then, we also have the added pressure of the demise of the ICE and most manual cars, which makes the FL5 yet more special/desirable.

from what people have posted here, apparently it wasn't easy to get MSRP on an FK8? how accurate is that?
All i know is that i didn't even look at an FK8 until the FL5 was announced (trying to rememb... i think it was spring of 2022)... and then, the FK8s were selling USED for 38k!! So, if i couldn't even touch a used FK8 without paying that kind of money, that also influenced me to accept an ADM on the FL5.

i know lots of brands and models, which are the ones most in demand, still are not typically selling at msrp.

I made a few inquiries locally about purchasing an FK8 a few years back and they were selling at up to $5K over MSRP. From what I was able to gather at the time, ADM was commonplace but nothing like the FL5. Sure you could find an FK8 at MSRP but it would take some work. I decided against continuing to pursue an FK8 at the time so I didn't turn over every stone like I did for the FL5. A key consideration here is the FL5 supply is a fraction of the FK8 supply in the first year of production. The demand is also significantly greater for the FL5 than the FK8.

For sure, but i don't believe anyone here is doing 10k or more... or they prob wouldn't be here. The question is... how much ADM is reasonable, and how likely are we to get msrp?

What you say is so true... that with all those cars sitting at dealerships, it's most likely they will start to cave. I learned from this experience that there are fees involved with having cars sitting on the showroom floor. This is the first time i ever paid more than MSRP for a car, so i have done a lot of research. The way their co-op deal works when getting money from the manufacturer to cover floor expenses has been changing lately. The manufacturers have backed off of their flat-rate floor programs... so, the dealership has no incentive to sit on a car and it is more of a financial burden to not sell quickly.

The only contradiction may be if they want to promote their dealership or draw in customers by keeping it on the floor -- they can consider it a marketing expense (not literally, but in their mind). And, that is an understandable perspective as long as the car is rare. but, since the dealership makes money by SELLING cars, and by acquiring customers, it's better to keep selling and getting good PR than it is to bring in people to look and walk away disappointed.

According to Steve Matchett website, there have been 1600+ FL5’s shipped and delivered in the US. The car has only been released for 6 months. I think there will be one available for anyone that wants one at a reasonable price.

Theoretically this is correct; however, the financial risks associated with dealer floorplan financing largely apply to scaled inventory. The dealers aren't sitting on 30 FL5s. In many cases, we're talking about one car, maybe two. As a dealership you won't have to balance cash flow with inventory levels for 1-2 units. They can sit on the car for months without levying substantial price cuts because from a financial perspective, they don't have to. The standard inventory turnover ratio does not apply for this unique use case.

I read a recent post where someone stated a dealer in the Pacific Northwest still has their FL5 from 4+ months ago. My local dealership in Atlanta had their first FL5 for about 3 months and they allegedly sold it for $15K over. They got their second allocation within the last 60 days and that one also allegedly sold for $15K over this past weekend. At this juncture none of the dealerships are inclined to fire sale FL5s. Just doesn't make sense to do that. I would ask this question: Has anyone on here reported that they bought their FL5 for MSRP because the car sat for too long and the dealership just wanted the car gone?

Yah, i've been tracking that -- mostly to monitor the colors LOL but also because i was wondering about my badge number in comparison to the VIN num vs. the total sold... plus, how long it would take to reach a decent market saturation. Also, Honda had said that they were going to be producing fewer of these than FK8s, yet it seemed from my car's numbers that they were already doing a decent output. Trouble is... i wish we had a better handle on actual demand... that is... how many potential customers are seriously considering the FL5?

Aha... that's valuable info. So, it has been significantly lower than the FK8... altho, what is the time period you are comparing it with? I can tell you from waiting for my car since Aug 3, 2022... that there were several delays in production, but i don't know if those were before or after the clock would have started ticking... do we know what is considered the true start of production? Or, are you taking it from the point that Honda started on a regular schedule of allocations/deliveries?

I’m going from 6 month into the launch of each car respectively. So 6 months into the launch of the FK8 there were about double what FL5 numbers currently are
