I think you guys are also just missing on how different dealerships operate in Japan vs America.

Land and space is a HUGE luxury in Japan. Most dealerships probably dont have the space for 50 cars just sitting on their lot, let alone 100s. So what do they do? Easy, keep 1 car of each model for display and test drives, and sell the car as it comes in.

They dont need a tester when the preorder volume outstrips supply.

What do you suggest they do then since order volume is outstripping demand for literally every model that Honda makes? Maybe they can have a life sized cardboard cutout of all their cars?

It's a halo car thats meant to drum up dealership traffic, itd be silly not to have one on show for that style of dealership business model.

A little different story when it comes to the type R - i dont think i need to explain that. Honestly- what would i have them do, well that would require me examining their entire operating model. A quick one would be them selling cars that they make.

I fully understand that there is positive intent on their part yet we live in unconventional times and the practicality of warm fuzzies no longer exists.

It just comes down to making cars in the most efficient way while maintaining excellence and selling cars that they make. Its a very, very simple goal with lots of complex underlying factors. One simple rule is minimize wastage and rework which is exactly what this is.

Id rather see 400 potential global customers receive cars who otherwise now won’t. When I see someone on the board dejected that they received two calls in one day that they will not be getting a type r due to supply and then i find out about this it straight up pisses me off.

You'll see the same thing happen in NA, only instead it'll be the dealership owner who buys the first one and plops it in the show room for everyone to look at.

I don’t know that my position would be any different. Make cars, sell cars, stop dicking around wasting cars. The market variables have changed. The unintended halo effect on the R is that enthusiasts who come from Honda loving families usually the end buyer and along with being screwed due to inventory comes “maybe i just wont buy a honda and switch to a competitor” - now you’ve alienated future sales in a compound effect from keeping a car on a lot. I even feel bad for some of the dealers (the legit ones) domestically that are feeling the pain from lower volume sales due to supply shortages and effectively becoming used car stores to keep the team on the payroll. Make it and sell it and every error is magnified in the current environment.

The halo effect of the CTR will be aimed at those people from the target demographic not necessarily buying a CTR, but any Honda. It's simply brand building and when you see the CTR like that, it's no surprise at all that they're being put in dealerships for test drives - Honda get a lot more brand mileage out of each car by doing that than they would if they just immediately sold them to private buyers to snaffle away in a garage out of sight for most days.

The Topher says that pricing for the GR Corolla is occurring tomorrow (9/6). Hopefully Honda follows suit this week!

Not really a surprise…if a car is ragged on hard around the track and something happens, it’s usually not warranty if we can see whatever it is a failure if it’s due to abuse.

Unlike an MX-5 where Mazda actually encourages track use and will warranty powertrain failure (during track use), just something to point out.

This is true, however it’s only if it’s a failure due to manufacturing lol. You can’t mis shift and blow the motor and expect that to be warranty

FWIW I want to test drive an FL5 before buying one. As much as I want one, I haven't drank enough Kool-Aid to be willing to drop $40k+ blindly. It's absolutely a great car, but I won't know if it's my kind of "great" until I sit in it.

ND drivetrain and chassis is also much, much less complex. Fewer things to break, cheaper to fix.

Is it possible that the US can get these before Japan? They stated the motor is built
in Ohio. Are these same motors built
for Japan? It would make sense to build the shell and then ship those to the US based factory in Ohio to install the motor and then farmed out to the domestic United States. If these were to come back to Japan, I can see the delay on coming back across the ocean. Thoughts?
