After everything I've heard about the CEO drama, I think it's much more than just product planning that leads to us getting stuff we don't want. But to be fair, like you said, different strokes for different folks.
The CEO is another problem, Honda hasn't really been lead by engineering in years. They pretty much forgot they're an engineering company first that makes cars and not the other way around. Too many accountants in the mix.

First and foremost, Honda is an engine manufacture. They are the largest ICE manufacture in the world.

I do agree their engineering team on the vehicle side has been lacking, FL5 CTR aside.

They've made strides for sure on certain aspects (interior for example), but drivetrains have seriously been lacking. When Toyota is pushing out v8s in Lexus and Acura only has a turbo v6, there's a problem.

PMM sold poorly, MGM does quite well. The problem lies in the fact that Honda uses regular civic data to determine colors for the Type R when the average civic customer and the average Type R customer are not the same person. Also Honda has teriible product planners
How do you expect a certain color to sell well if you don't produce enough of them? Black and Red are the two lowest produced color and they took it away because it didn't sell enough? I would have chosen RR if there were any available. Any RR that are available have unreal ADM on them  I would have expected some vibrant color, like yellow to replace RR. But NO, we got another shade of grey - WTF Honda!

Have you seen how OLD those Toyota V8's and V6's are? They are reliable for a reason. The IS has essentially been the same for 15 years. Same with the GX until last year.

Turbo sixes and turbo fours will always be less reliable than a regular ICE setup (for the most part anyway). Which by the way, has been troubling Toyota lately.

However, Toyota is killing Honda and everyone else in the mass market Hybrid engine area.

Honda uses market data to determine colors, overwhelmingly white, silver, grey and their variations outsell pretty much every other color in both numbers and time spent on the dealership floor. Honda is in the volume business, so they gotta do what the market demands. Demand for RR and CBP was and still is extremely low, you're in the extreme minority for wanting those colors. When I was selling FL5s Red and Black were always the last colors to get picked even if we offered a better deal on those colors people would still take CW because it's the "Type R" color, BBP because its that "pretty blue" and SGP because its that cool grey like Audis.

People mostly hate Black because it gets dirty 30 seconds after you clean it and they avoid red because they think it raises their insurance premiums which is a myth.

Anecdotally....this past weekend at the NorCal meet...you can see which colors are popular.

Not a popularity contest IMHO. If you look at production data, it pretty much jives with that picture. People can't buy what isn't produced!

People are becoming color blind in the last 3 decades because all the manufacturers are producing nothing but blacks, whites, and all the different shades of greys and they think that's what people want. Well...I can't buy what I want if it isn't even made available  At this point, I'll pick anything that has some colors to it!

Do you really want a V6 in a CTR-sized car? Honda does make V6s for the Odyssey and previously Crosstour.

A 2002 4-banger Accord can go 115mph down I-90. Should be more than enough ;)

I personally don't see 4 bangers as a daily car limitation, unless you are wanting to see Honda compete in GT3.

Honda Hybrids are something else, though. Ultra reliable (no transmission to speak of).

It is a self-fulfilling prophecy unfortunately but it does have a lot of merit in reality. Best way to get a cool color is to wrap it. Inozetek and STEK both offer wraps that look like Pheonix yellow, Brooklands Green, Deep Violet, Blazing Orange, Arctic Blue and Vogue Silver.

This is where at the very least Acura should have more exclusive colors and reduce the amount of colors they share with Honda.

interesting! have me a red type R already, was tempted by the 2027 changes. Now i don't think i would trade my Type R since I want to keep the red. Any thoughts on what's coming in terms of ''updates''? is 2027 the last year as it seems ?
