I wouldn't recommend forcing the collar down like that. Chances are you will break the clips in the silver collar and the collar will come loose everytime you shift.

Noted, will do it the "hard" way.

Just replace the collar while youre in there.. youll have to anyways if you ever replace the shift knob.
