I'm guessing change the $ to a £ and that won't be far off!!
Puts it around Golf R pricing.
Wonder how much longer we need to wait for info.

Ye needs to be around £40k based purely off the usd exchange rate that seems fair!

VW do actually seem to discount the golf R by almost 10% on drive the deal so under £40k for a base spec R!

Not totally enamored with the reviews, my take on it. A more playful rear end that rotates better than the FK8 but not as raw. The way I read all the reviews is that on track the FL5 will be more fun / enjoyable (due to the rear end rotation), but for a B road blast the FK8 is the one to grab the keys for. Not sure it's worth the upgrade from my facelift FK8.

Yeah, if I had a '20-21 FK8, I wouldn't be looking to make a move any time soon

I think we need real UK road tests to see how good it really is. Hopefully not long now. Price, who knows...

Yes, haven't read them properly yet but reviews so far seems very "first impressions" and certainly not in UK b road environments!

£38,995-£39,995 is my guess. Not decided if I keep the FK8 until I see the FL5 in person and drive one. Definitely not going to be buying without a test drive and viewing.

I’m not even sure dealers will have demonstrators, they will be few and far between these cars and will fly out if priced right.

Agreed im not sure you'll even get one if you commit to buy unseen today unless a lot of people pull out due to rrp!!

I'm very much on the fence about my order having had the i20n for a month or so. All I need really for the roads at least!! Loved the bite of the diff on the fk8 (though the i20n still has a mechanical one) but otherwise don't feel like I'm missing too much other than the obvious prestige and extra fineese the type R undoubtedly has.

I also quite like the fact everyone has or is pulling out of the smaller hot hatch market so it's nice to have a great example of the breed before they die off completely.

I won't be able to make an informed decision as to whether it is worse, better or the same as my FK8 if they don't have a demo car. Not risking swapping until I can really compare them. Who would spend £40k without seeing and test driving first? Makes no sense as you might be really unhappy and not like the car and it's too late then!

I can wait as I still have warranty and service plan in place for 2 years yet anyway. By then I'm sure they won't be hard to get and with the cost of living and recession looming there'll be a lot of people who want the car but simply can't afford it. I think sales will be slower than expected.

Im happy to order unseen but I’ll be relying Carwows review mainly and Evo, if they like I will keep the order (assuming I get one in the first place)!

Looks like the FL5 will be on the new Top Gear series driven by Harris.

Wonder if they'll give any UK release date or pricing info on it.
