Anyone have any new movement on this? Was looking at wheels from Blackhawk and while shipping is crazy it's still magnitudes less expensive than here in the US. Even if hit with 500$ tarrif for wheels.
Dont do it and just buy from here stateside. $500 Tariff for wheels would be for a set that cost roughly $1k from Blackhawk. Blackhawk Japan is not doing the tariffs the correct way. Whoever is inputting the part description keeps putting the wrong code and we are getting charged 50% on non steel parts.

I was getting ready to order the Cusco Wing Risers and they advised my that it's 15% Tariff + Brokerage Fee + 50% for Steel. Their compromise was only declaring 70% of the value.

At this point JDM Parts are becoming a luxury. When I started in the late 90's in the import scene I thought it was expensive, but not like today. Back then the worse part was the wait or finding a dealer who could import the part.

Something important has changed lately, and I’ve been seeing it first-hand on recent orders.

You’re no longer just being charged duties/taxes based on where the part ships from. Customs is now also looking at where the raw materials came from — and in some cases, you’re expected to prove it.

So even if a part is:

  • Designed or assembled in the UK
  • Marketed as “UK made”

If the raw materials (stainless, aluminum, carbon fiber, etc.) came from elsewhere, customs can:

  • Apply higher duties
  • Reclassify the country of origin
  • Request additional documentation
  • Or charge based on the raw material origin instead

This has been happening more often recently, especially with automotive and performance parts.

Not saying it’ll hit every order — but it is happening, and it’s something to be aware of if you’re importing parts or pricing products right now.

Just wanted to share so nobody’s caught off guard 👊

I might just pull the trigger. Wheels I'm looking to get are $3307 shipped to the US. With new tariff rate on Japan @ 15%. I'm looking at $496.05 in duty fees that I'll pay to customs.

I would still be saving over $500 - $800 compared to buying here. If everything goes according to plan 😂
I ordered the wheels from BHJ back in November. I got the exact wheels you might be interested in which is the Rega's evo II's 18x10 $3,620.15 USD is what I paid. I ended up going with Fedex and they're charging me about $1085 in tariffs right now.

I think someone called it out already, but yes its true the wheels are misclassified and Fedex has a customs dept that I've been reaching out to for a couple of months.

What I found out is that they charged me 3 tariffs separately for the same thing instead of one which would've had my total around the 400-500 range.

I went and did some digging to verify all the paper work was incorrect which indeed it was, but the issue is that no one form Fedex has replied to my email since for two months now.

I've tried to call, but they will reroute to you the email alias which you pretty much are in limbo.

I now have the wheels, but Fedex has a balance of $1085 on my account with no real resolution. I'd highly advise you not to order unless you want to go through all this.

For further clarification:

You were charged THREE separate tariffs on the same wheels:

Tariff TypeRateAmount
IEEPA EO <15%15%$289.50
Additional auto parts tariff15%$289.50
Section 301 aluminum / vehicle parts25%$482.50
Subtotal tariffs$1,061.50

I can give you more details if you want, but just wanted to give you a jist of what to expect.

I read that FedEx will eventually go after the shipper for the customs/fees payment if the buyer doesn't pay.

Interesting. How did you get them to release the wheels without payment?

I kept calling for updates because at that time it just showed has a "customs hold" and eventually I gave up.

I didn't do anything and one day they delivered all 4 wheels and then sent me the bill.

it’s a nightmare right now. They charge not only for the product but also a separate fee for the raw material and you have to show where the raw material came from. I include the tariffs at checkout now so no hassle to you guys and I’m transparent with it

This is actually kinda normal with Fedex lol, I ordered a couple things from the UK and got them no problem then 2 months later Fedex emailed me with an invoice for the tariffs related to the items they had already delivered.

Yeah, I would avoid ordering from Blackhawk right now. Ive paid almost 65% percent tariff on fiberglass parts misclassified as Steel. I paid my tariffs since I did not want to end up in collections. Now working with UPS to get the adjustment done and my money back.

Interestingly, Blackhawk has started selling on Ebay and prices supposedly include Tariffs which turn out to be a lot cheaper. I will let you know since I ordered the last piece to my Blitz Kit.

Surprised they don't offer DDP on their own website since eBay takes roughly a 10% cut of the sales price.

Thank you for the update! I've held off on buying new wheels. I'm focusing on stockpiling up all my parts and wheels are gonna be last on my list.

Received my Blackhawk Ebay Order today. No tariffs as they were already charged. I think is the way to go as you get up front pricing. Shipping was also a lot faster, unlike my other Blitz pieces, these arrived in roughly a month compared to 3-4 months for the other pieces. Either Blitz ramped up production or eBay policies have helped with shipping times. My kit is now complete!
