Open up ordering from manufacturer as an option so buyers have a choice between dealers or ordering from manufacturer; more freedom of choice and more competition.
There is no better solution than this but you'll always find a Dealing David find a way to spin it. ^^

If I had a dime for every time 'socialism' was used incorrectly...

I'd buy us all an FL5 in the color we want!! 😄

Yeah somewhat true.

Deals can still be negotiated though. The trick is to play one dealer off against another to get the best price. Essentially, it's like asking for a price match or a price beat/best price guaranteed. If you choose to buy extended warranty, service plan, optional extras etc. They then generally are willing to move on the initial car price because they are making most of the money on all that stuff. It can work out well for both the customer and the dealer. Plus, they know if they treat you well and give you a good deal, you are likely to recommend them and be a returning customer in future. If you're buying on finance and they are going to get a payout for arranging the finance and the interest charges then again, that can sway things some.

Then you can always buy pre-registered cars, similar to the US where the dealer already has the car in stock and has registered it. Again, negotiate and shop around to get a good deal.

Pitting dealerships against each other can work in your favor on certain cars but I doubt that will apply to the Type R.
Dealerships know whatever one person won’t pay somebody else will without hesitation.

Funny how I got almost £4000 off my FK8 by doing exactly that!

The people who keep referencing FK8 and that launch are completely off-base. This was before a global pandemic and supply chain issues. Completely different market and even then it was hard to find a deal at MSRP...

Region also makes a big difference in terms of availability. Unless you're in the middle or nowhere or willing to drive/trailer the car back it will likely be next to impossible given the demand and the lack of supply at Honda with ANY model. I suspect the dealers that were willing to do MSRP on the FK8 at launch won't even be getting the FL5 for awhile.

I've committed to my deal knowing that it's a gamble either way. I would advise others to do the same if they really want this thing!

Why don't you think think they will get an FL5?

Meaning they were low volume dealers that will not be a priority when things are in short supply. EVENTUALLY they will be get them but probably not for a year at least. Just my feeling. I have no data to back this up.

I have no proof but I don't agree.

Last time the FK8 civics were based on Civic turn. I imagine every dealer does well on that right now.

I think all dealers will get one before they start to show fully at other dealers.

It is tight right now. You're right.

Given the hype and interest in the FL5, I expect that any dealer that is willing to sell theirs at MSRP has a list about 5-10 people deep. If they get the ONE that you are talking about it's gone and not even an option right now. The potential buyer market has to be at least 2x the FK8 just in terms of appearance. This will increase dramatically the closer we get to launch with horsepower and price release.

I could be wrong but I witnessed the launch of the FK8 from the sidelines. I wasn't in a position to buy at the time but saw all the sh*t that dealers pulled back then and that was before the issues with the supply we are seeing now.

This whole conversation has run its course five times over. Lets kick back and see what awaits this week.

Haha for sure. Gotta bring it back to reality though. I'm anxious to see where we are when these start arriving in the US.
