On my 1.5T Civic build journey, the clutch has consistently been the weak link.

When I was running the stock turbo with ethanol injection, the OEM clutch started slipping pretty quickly. I upgraded to an EXEDY street performance clutch, which held fine at around 230–240 whp (stock was roughly 150 whp).

After rebuilding the engine, I switched to an RV6 FK8 lightweight flywheel paired with an EXEDY Stage 1 clutch kit, rated for over 580 Nm at the crank.

However, once I started tuning the turbo and running about 1.9 bar of boost, it began slipping again. I could clearly smell the clutch burning during pulls.

My virtual dyno estimates around 400 Nm wheel torque. Accounting for drivetrain loss from the manual transmission, that likely puts me right at the upper limit of the EXEDY Stage 1. So once again, the clutch needs an upgrade.

I’ve only just begun tuning. You can see from my graph that the power curve is almost flat after 4500 rpm — I haven’t even started pushing for more power yet. So far I’ve only calibrated AFR. I expect wheel torque could reach around 450 Nm, another 10–15% increase from where I am now.

Now I’m debating whether a Clutch Masters FX400 would be enough, or if I should go straight to an FX500, or maybe something else entirely.

I still want the car to remain enjoyable for daily driving — I don’t want something that’s miserable in traffic.

Would really appreciate advice from anyone with similar torque levels on a 1.5T platform.

Thanks in advance.

Does Manic, in Australia make a double disk unit for it??Their LS clutches can handle 700 lb.ft, no problem

I mean you're going to hit a limit of driveability vs power. You sound like you are getting close to 6 puck territory and that is not gonna be a daily driver clutch.

Yeah man, I’m trying to keep it a beast but still daily-drivable — not easy. I really thought the RV6 combo would be enough, but apparently it’s just barely not there.
