As you can probably guess by the name, I think sailboats are cool lol and I love sailing, but I also love fast cars too. I've had a passion for modifying cars since my first car back in 1999, or was it 2000, I don't remember. My first car was a 1990 Honda civic hatchback, my second car was a 1993 Honda civic hatchback. Here I am 25 years later with my first Type R. That's exciting! Of course I have owned several cars in between those years too. From pickup trucks, to sport sedans, to family wagons (subaru outbacks) and so on. Some of my favorites were my Subaru WRX, Chevy SS, Camaro SS 1LE and of course my new Type R. Anyways, enough about me. This page is about my 2025 Honda Civic Type R. I will share my goals, daily projects and thoughts with you guys. I will try my best to keep the OP updated as I progress through each phase or any new photos.

I got the car in November of 2024, right off the showroom floor. I felt very fortunate to only pay MSRP and not a penny more. Fast forward to the beginning of December and I put on new wheels and tires and lowering springs. I also put on my front lip! The only engine mod at this point is an oil catch can to preserve the engine until I start the next phase. Attached are some pictures of the current progress.

Below is the current build goals, of course, as I continue to research this I may update or make changes along the way. Keep in mind the prices/costs are estimates for my own budgeting and cost sorting. Some items may be slightly more expensive or cheaper depending on sales etc. A strike through means that mod or part has already been ordered and installed. I have put things in sections that I believe are best order for the car and offer the best results prior to paying for dyno tuning. The goal is to reach at least 400WHP on pump gas (93 octane) without the need for flex fuel, because it is not common in my area.

Appearance/Handling

Some possible upgrades depending where the dyno ends up at. The 27Won exhaust system (to be released soon?). Maybe Turbo upgrade, unknown choice currently. Lastly, If power still is not where I expect it to be by this point, maybe a cam package. Of course just playing it by ear at this point.

Looks good šŸ‘ where in KY? I'm in southwest Indiana right across the river. I've only seen 1 other R in the area.

I’m Danville area. If you’re around Louisville that’s about 1.5 hours away from me. I have had this car for almost a month now and never seen one in person other than when I bought mine.

Although we went down to Gatlinburg recently and I found another blue FL5 was parked right next to me! Made my day, was the coolest thing! I never got to meet the owner though.

actually I have been down there a few times. Took my wife and kids to the corvette museum and then headed over to the track. Never could afford to track my car there though. I was there last fall in my Camaro 1LE and met some really nice guys at some kind of club or open track day. There were corvettes, tons of other Camaros, m series cars and some others.

Your going to need a hpfp and injectors along the way. To be real 375-380 with just fbo and tune will save you about 8k and I promise you 15-20 hp difference ain't worth 8k for a street car.

Good advice. May end up going that route. All depends where it ends up after phase 1 and 2 and after the tune. If it don’t feel fast enough will have to do more. Before I start changing the fuel pump and injectors we will see where it sits and go from there. Totally agree the money spent for certain small gains isn’t always worth it.

or were you saying the FL5 needs upgraded pump and injectors just to get to 375!? If so, that’s the first I have heard that.

You can get close to close to 400 with fbo + tune on stock fuel system and oem turbo. Even with flex fuel 400 is probably dangerous on oem turbo.
It's pointless to upgrade the turbo without the fuel system.
FBO+ a tune I'd recommend Jester04 odds are will get you what you want and your not digging deep in your pocket.

I understand what your saying now. So if one does go about messing with the turbo then might as well assume fuel system has also been upgraded to support it.

In my mind, at least right now, the car needs to beat any lightly modified V8's, traditional American muscle V8's. Considering most of the modern V8 engines are putting down around 440-460hp at the crank. Add in maybe their intake or exhaust, let's say adds +10hp without a tune. Weight to power ratio the type R should win if the Type R is pushing high 300s Wheel HP. Beyond that, I am also looking for a little more torque like I use to feel in my camaro. I want my head to hit the headrest when I put my foot down.
